Let me know if any one can see this one.
Supposedly its a Magnum Missile going 104 mph!!!

PS I finally got it to load up.

Hummmm......
I wonder if there is a way to tell if he's really going that fast from the vid?

104 MPH is 153 FPS...

So he had to go 306 feet in two seconds.

If we set the boat length at 15 feet- 4 inchs, which I think is pretty close, he has to travel approx 20 boat lengths in two seconds. I guess you could find somewhere on the distant shore as a marker to align with the bow, then measure out 20 boat lengths and see if he made that in two seconds to another bow to shore alignment marker at 306 feet.

Using my crude Boat length and stop watch method, thats very close to what I came up with. 63 to 67 mph. Averaged to 65.... That makes sense if they just got the MPH and Km mixed up...

One thing I come away from this vid, is how poorly placed the throttle is on the Missile. You have to reach up and over the gunnel to get to it. You can barely make out the throttle in the vid at WOT. That's too far away for me at 65 mph.

65 seems about right. A friend of mine had one of those with a Mercury straight 6 150-XS back in the early 80s. I drove it several times (at the time I owned a 16 Laser w/200 hp V6 Evinrude that was decked out that ran 87 RADAR mph), and it ran exactly like the one in the video; extremely wet and it porpoised continually.

I was running in the low 80s in this clip, and it looks a LOT faster than the missle is running.

I owned one that was hull #17 years ago. They were fast, but triple digits is a little much to ask. 60-80 depending on who rigged it & with what was more realistic. My fathers freinds also had a few of them that also ran about the same speeds..

BTW, they were also prone to blowing back with too much power or trim due to the full tunnel design. The boat I owned was blown back before I bought it. It had a 150 ss merc on it..

Neat boats, but I would rather another classic or a 20' cig if I went with a smaller boat again...
