I can only hit 64 mph on the lake with a 3 blade 23 pitch prop What can I do to hit 70 mph

I have a 1993 22C that had the 454HO. 365 HP was their rating, what have you done to get 410HP? My carb was/is a Holley 4150/850CFM.

My best speed with that setup was 68MPH, 1/4 tank of gas and 1 person in the boat. 23 Hydromotive Q-IV @ 4600 RPM's.

Running with more weight it was considerably slower.

You didn't pick up another 6mph with those valve covers? :bonk:
I figure it's about $200+ per MPH above 45mph. How much money do you have to spend?

Sea level at home 3000 feet whan I take it to the big lake rpm at 4800 I have to adjust the carb idle screws at 3000prop down to a 19 I also have 2 four blade props a 24 and a 25 pitch will they create more drag or more top end havent used them yet

The 24" and 25" 4 blade props will lower your RPM's. You don't have the power to turn that much pitch in a 4 blade propeller. The 454HO's full throttle operating range is 4600 to 5000 RPM's. You are ok at 4800.

:wink:I had good performance with the 23 pitch Turbo, today I would try the TXP. Good grab and good overall performance....I had the smaller 330 HP and only saw upper 50's to low 60's... GPS.

I magically found some 20 mph by sticking a Stock 502 EFI in it...and had to increase my prop a few pitches...now running a 26 TXP at 4900rpm's and hitting 80mph... :smash:

Good Luck, and I actually spent closer to $1000 per mph gain....by the time it was all said and done. The good news is its turn key, runs well and performs very consistently. The next best money... I spent on a new Trailer to haul it to all the Events....:wavey:

Doc of Stock HP500 EFI's :spongebob:

At your altitude you're only seeing 370 HP at best.
For 70 MPH you're going to need sea level.

You may be on to something there. Why not take a good look at the collection of parts you can see and check the cranking compression. You may find he was a little optimistic, and that you're right where your setup should be.
