It doesn't look like the B/W Velvet Touch (or was it Velvet Glide)
my BBC/TRS boat.

But I haven't owned that boat for ten years.....

Should be a B/W 71C, which was trans put on most 365/370 TRS packages. There should be a plate on top left side with model/ser #'s. With modified internals, you can put about 600 non-SC hp on these.

Definetely a Borg Warner trans.
The dead give a way is the bellhousing mounted starter. Also, the Merc Trans tail shaft does not have the "ears" on it that through bolt to the inner transom plate.

Take a look att he tag riveted to the case, if it reads 10-17, its a 71C. If the tag reas 10-18, it's the more desireable 72C that can be modified to handle 1200 hp!

. Also, the 72C is 15/16" longer than the 71C
