How fast would a 16 be with a 427 sbc be? The engine in question would possible be Bill Mitchell 427 short block with edelbrock rpm heads and air gap intake. Cam would be 232@.050 , .512 lift and 108 degrees lobe separation. Carb would be 850 holley dp. Just doing some thinking!

Rootsy did 80 with a worked 350, you could vaporize yourself with a 427! I am waiting for someone to slap a Blackhawk on a 16 with a decent 383, that would roll up a big number and not be a whacky chine walking ride!

intake runner too small on a rpm head for a 427 sbc..would be good under 5000 lots of torque tho...108 lobe sep,, wont idle good and may load up..try to find a 112 or see if its available..

That was the idea with the small 170cc head to increase intake velocity and make loads of twist. Figured running max 5200rpm. I am running gen II alpha 1.32 gears with internal water cooler. My drive man whom has been building my drives for 15 years thinks it will handle the power. I will say I have put lots of power on his drives over the years without a hitch. May just have to find out!

81.3 Phil :)

you're gonna need about 100 or so more hp than I had to get where I was with my 350 if you're going to run that Gen II at the stock X... That's if you can hang onto it, which should become realllly interesting once you approach that 70 mark...

Why do a Bill Mitchell 427? You might as well go with his 454 SBC. The Edelbrock heads would be way to small, you're going to have gobs of torque anyway so you might as well go ahead and benefit from the higher RPM power. Cam seems a bit small on duration too.

This boat is now running a strong 350. Best performance is 72mph. It seems the faster I go the smoother she runs. Though the horizon does wiggle from time to time. The reason the 427 is the choice, is my top end size along with the bore being 4.125", and the stroke at 4". The little M block can be bored to 4.2 maybe 4.25". So at 4.125" leaves lots of room to move if I needed to rebuild down the road.
