Hi all.. I have a BIG problem...

with the upcoming LG event I thought someone/multiple peep's can do me a HUGE favor and check out an address for me in the south Lake George/Glen Falls area.

when we were there in June someone lifted a credit card number from me during a transaction at a business somewhere and now I seem to have multiple new accounts in my name, with an LG mailing address, or an existing account is being used for fraud. I contacted EVERY business there that I used one specific card at, and nobody knows nuttin'... A property search of that address shows that as many as 20 people either live there now, or have lived there in the last 5 or so years.... could be only one person who stole 20 other's identity's... Glens Falls Police don't care to even look into it, other than write a telephone report...

yesterday's mail brings me a credit reporting service dispute report, confirming that they all (Experion, Trans Union and Equifax) won't release that address as not being mine since more purchasing activity against my name is being reported.

Lake George, NY 12845

needless to say this is a HUGE problem... my numbers always have stayed in the 770-782 range for over 35 years and now have taken a 50 point hit in 60 days... I have Identity Theft protection that I pay for, but that only takes care of PAST events, or events AFTER they happen. That doesn't keep someone from doing it in the future... whoever did it either made a digital scan of a card with their piggyback card reader or manually wrote down the information on both sides...

We need your help guys and gal's...

Jim:
identifity theft is pretty scary!!! I'll try and swing by and see what is at that address. in the mean time if you haven't already I'd contact the Warren County, NY sheriff (518) 743-2500, and the NY State Police headquarters in Queensbury;(518) 745-1033.

There was a show on dateline NBC about stuff similar to this a little bit ago.. Some of this story was actually going on in upstate NY!! Maybe you could search thier website & see if there was any info that may help there..

Also Despite the CC issues it is still one of the safest ways to do business.

What I would recomend is if you didnt also contact the police in NY & in FL about your unfortunate credit & Identity theft.. They can at least put it on file so you can have it to help you in any legal way possible.. Also send a copy of the police reports to the credit beauros & card agencies. This will also further legitimize your side to help protect your credit & get any negative items/remarks removed from your report..

These SOB's that do this are crafty & aggrevating to say the least. I have my business card hit once for 10k worth of medical supplies that were going to get sent to Asia or something like that..:boggled:.. It was a little bit of a PITA but it all got worked out fine..

I hope it all fairs out well for you.. This stuff really sux.. :) Jamie

Jim, been there, done that. last year someone got a hold of one of my credit cards after I had ordered some items from several different aquarium dealers online. Ordered high tech cameras, computers and such to an address in Oklahoma. Then they signed up for a bunch of gay porno websites. Credit card company was very helpful and the stores he ordered the mechandise from caught on and never shipped anything to them/him/her. Although it turned out alright, my credit score took a beating. For some reason, if you report the card number is being used, it went as a stolen credit card on my report and dropped it 50 points. The card was never really stolen, just the number. I think it is BS that if you report a card stolen, or that someone has obtained your number, that it lowers your credit score. It was scary to watch all this happening.

The lesson I learned is watch your balances all the time and monitor your credit report. I was already in this practice and caught it early. No telling what would have happened if I had not caught it until the next credit card statement. I did not have identity theft protection and don't think if I did it would have helped. Seems more of a way to milk money out of people.

Jim, I hope you resolve your problem and wish you luck. Sorry it happened.

It Sounds Like That Address Is Or Close To The Camp Ground That You Stayed At . Maybe And Employee There Or Garbage Picker Found Something With A Transaction Of Yours On It . Maybe You Should Notify The Campground .

Don, I was thinking the same thing. Or maybe someone broke into the motor home, unnoticed and swiped the info. I'm going to drive by the place tonight on my way home.

nobody broke into the motorhome....

the campground has been totally uncooperative...

thanx for the help, i'm having to do all the legwork at this point, so your time is greatly appreciated...

there is actually a small good part to this story, when I misplaced my wallet at Dan's place on Weds night, and I didn't know it yet, I had put a hold on that Visa card with the card company on Thursday morning, they then locked it down, instead of putting a *watch* on that account as I requested, that actually stopped the thief while I was traveling and unable to check on things... Danny found the wallet about 2 hours after the call to the card company to report it *possibly* missing... it's a Godsend Danny found it and it played out that way, otherwise the perp could have used the number for another 2 or 3 weeks before we discovered any issues at all if I had never misplaced the wallet in the first place.... the card company then screwed up royally at that point, i'll save that tidbit for later...

Jim you've got a PM with a few more details.
Swung by the place this evening. just a one story ranch with attached garage set back in the trees. it is only a few hundred yards from the RV park though. Not the "crack house" I was anticipating.

with Kirby's help, which was monumentally invaluable, this episode should be behind me. The info Kirby was able to obtain from the NY State system put a quick closure, to a potentially months longgggggggggg saga.

thank you very, very much.... J & J
