Was flushing donzi 16 4.3L when hose split, didn't notice for about a minute. Engine shut down by itself. After engine cools motor seems to run fine, lots of water exiting thru hull exhausts (Water pump seems fine). After about less then a minute engine slows down and dies. Did I damage motor or am I missing something. Engine only ran about a minute without water. Could there be something electrical shorting out? Any suggestions. Im afaraid I may have damaged engine.

Maybe no big deal.
Is your temp guage reading correctly?
Is the electric choke working properly? It dies...?? More information. It dies if it is just idling? When you increase rpms, gets HOT and dies? What does it do and when is more important.

Engine normally runs at 150 degrees, if let engine cool to zero, then start it will run for abt half a minute at idle before it dies. Temp doesn't even get half way to 150 degrees, it doesn't seem to be an overheating problem eventhough the problem may have originally been caused by overheating--strange. It seems to be related to how hot engine is eventhough engine seems to be running cool. Im thinking maybe the coil is opening up??

The fact it shut itself down, thats is pretty hot! Why not start with some basics, pull the spark plugs look for good matching color. Any reddish look on any may indicate water intrusion, do a compression test. If all that comes out Ok you may not have hurt it much. Shutting down a hot motor with the key is one thing but a hot friction stop can do damage to anything from gaskets to variety of other things!

What year is the engine? Could it have tripped some Guardian mode switch, that didn't reset? I really don't know.
