Hi Guys,
I went to remove the spark plugs on my 1987 Z-21 320EFI alpha Merc
and found that I can't:wink: remove them because the exhaust manifold comes down to far to get a socket in there.
My question is do I have to remove the exhaust manifold to remove the spark plugs?

You may be able to get an end wrench around the plugs, a little slower perhaps, but easier than removing the manifolds.

Get Your Self A Cheepo Craftsman Sparkplug Socket (3/8) And Grind The Hex End Down On The Old Bench Grinder..

You may be able to get an open wrench on one of the spark plug sockets that is made that way. Also, you may be able to grind some of the socket end off...either end to make more space.

5/8th offset box end works fine, crack them loose then finger them out.

More importantly, get a foot or two length of fule hose and use that to install the new plugs, to get them started. Do not try to use a socket to get the new plugs started, you can easily cross thread them and ruin your head!
