This boat has been painted with what acts like Imron( hull, deck and inner tubs). Is this unusual? Does this indicate that the original gel coat was shot. Can it be stripped and re-gel coated? Thanks, Ethyl

There are a couple schools of thought on this & many different prefereces / opinions on painting & gelcoating..

Almost any boat can be stripped to be regelcoated if it was ever painted. However paint is becoming much more widley accepeted these days. It just has to be done right & with excellent quality materials. It usually comes down to personal preference as to what you go with these days. They both have trade offs. Unless there is some uniqueness about your particular 1967, At this point, I would just have good prep work & sealing done and then repaint it. The gelcoat will probably cost you more because of the extra labor to remove the old paint & get it ready to gelcoat .

Hope this helps.. :) Jamie / Lakeside
