I've been a lurker more or less for a few years now, but I had my first spin on a Classic and absolutely fell in love with it. It was a brand new '07 22 Classic with a 496 HO. I wasn't totally sure what drive it had, whether it was a Bravo 1, a 1x or an XR. What are the most common/best drive applications for this engine?

:bonk:Chris Craft/Donzi - King Cobra Drive!

But in a Merc. I would have to say the XR is the newest performance peice that is pushing most of todays newer hardware.

Non mags usually had a stanndard B1, Mag Hos a B1x & you sometimes could order it with an optional B1xr.. :)

The B1x is more than adequate for that boat including most upgrades, unless you are an abusive driver..

Hope it helps.. :) Jamie / Lakeside

X is the way to go. An XR is overkill and will cost you some hp.

I have a new (4 hours of use) Bravo XR with 1:50 ratio and LWP (Low Water Pickup) available to a Donzi Registry member for a steal of a price at $5,000 plus shipping. Please pm me if you are interested. Drive still has 10 months of warranty on it. It might be overkill, but at this price, you will not have to worry too much about drive problems.

I have an 06 22 with the 496HO and the Bravo X. I have driven one with the XR but it was slower. I suggest the X with external steering. I think it was calculated the the XR was either 10% or 15% power loss. I'd get the XR if you are going to run ove 500 hp.

Blew up a regular Bravo behind my 500.

I lost one mile per hour after the conversion. The gear whine takes some getting used to also. The performance robbing aspects of this drive didn't play out on my application.

XR on a 496 or 496HO would be a case of overkill.
