Thanks. I got a 18" wooden boat kit for christmas 2 years ago, never got it close to done... This time, im gona finish it. Was thinking of making it into a Natique, then looked as the picture again and realized it looked a bit more like and 18 (with doing the deck differently) than a natique. Started glassing it 2 nights ago and remembered to open the garage when working with resin!

Hey, I've build two of those...One wood one in 1979, and a glass one in 1993. I still have the glass one. Has 1.2 hp!!!

1.2 hp in the little 18" boat?? Does that give the Mighty Mouse a run? Can you post pics?

My son Kyle (10 years old) wants a gas powered radio controlled boat for Christmas. Any suggestions for something that will not take three years to build and cost a small fortune? I have some older Futaba gold series 7-channel radios that I could use.

Is it his first? If it is, be careful with him running it with gas, get going pretty quick. Reccomend to stay away from Kyosho boats, plastic thin hulls bend really easy. You will probably want a real gas engine, not a nitro engine, the price to operate is a lot cheaper with gas. Justs needs a good pull and some 50:1 mix. Nitros need expensive (20$/gallon) fuel, glow warmers (20$). If you do go with electric, get some good 2000mah batteries for longer run time (more mah is better) and a high quality electric speed control (30-200$) you dont want to mess around with the mechanical ones they supply with the kit. I broke 3 mech. ones on my first electric and went to an ESC and wont go back!

If you go gas, cheapest way to do it is to buy a boat and running hardware (shaft, stuffing box, rudder, etc.), radio, and then a weedwacker. put the weed wacker engine in it.

For that kind of power, go with at least a 40" boat. I have a 45" scarab that gets going with a 30cc homelite.

I will look through some cataloges for you and post up what I find in a few minutes.

My first boat.... Fast, that combo has it all, radio, charger, battery, running hardware... If you get it, I have another prop Ill send you, much better.

Another plus I forgot about electric is how you have reverse!! get around docks, you cans still run it, my scarab I wont run until I get the middle of the lake.

What about a boat that can run Electric to learn then switching to gas later on?

I actually bought a Deep V 20 (24” long) a few months ago to make a copy of what my 66 Barrelback will end up looking like. Trying to find the time for anything to work on is the tough part.....
