From what I have heard they made approximately 10 all red 22 classics with gray interior with red piping but all were not classified as testa's the all red boats started to be made right after the 75 LE boats were complete was the factory sick of gray and black and did they have alot of gray and red interiors and red gel in stock??? HUMMMMM also probably no more than 35 all red boats were produced in the 3 models but again all were not classified as testa rosa

So what classifies a boat as a testarossa? Is it the Italian windshield or just whatever it says on the production slip? The brochure George posted a while ago on the Minx said the special editions consisted of "dramatic all-red exterior, grey interior and Italian windshield."

A Testa Rossa is a specific model that says so on the bill of sale. It cost $1,990.00 extra for the 22 in '87. I suppose the Minx version was similarly priced. As far as I know (not very much) any other all red boats were'nt Testa Rossas.
Maybe this evening I'll scan my original Donzi bill of Sale. It was a pretty expensive boat. Adjusted for inflation it was about $80,000.00.
I remember several years ago in Sarasota seeing the Arronow Edition which also was all red.......but you've all seen these. Maybe too much red.

OK, here's the Donzi invoice;
It totals $45,485.00. If you run it through this inflation calculator... http://www.westegg.com/inflation/
It comes to $80,616.00.

just about what a top of the line 22 goes for today, donzi the economic standard. so if you don't have a bill of sale how do tell a solid red boat from a testa?

gcarter

I don't know for sure, but it would seem TRs were only available in the '88 model year.

Curious....what's your hull #?
Since your in Seattle, did you buy the boat from B. Guggenmos????
If you notice, mine came out of stock. The hull was laid up in August of '87, it was ordered by the Pennsylvania dealer on September 29, '87 and shipped on September 30, '87. I wonder if all the hulls were laid up at the same time and finished at different times. It could be if there were only 10 or so.
I bet someone here knows for sure.

There was one on e-bay sometime in the last year. It was 1988,all red, grey seating with red piping. I contacted the owner and he said that it was a testa, but he had painted it because the red gel had faded so bad, something I heard all testa's had some issues with.

George, haven't been able to sleep in 2 weeks. Got an offer on the company last week, countered Monday, potential buyer coming out Friday to meet with bank and accountants. Waiting is driving me crazy! Plus, trying to have kids, and closing on the 3 acres south of town. Got a lot going on.

I will search back and see if I can find the post on the 22 Testa on e-bay. I think I posted it here.

A Testarossa theme for AOTH 2008 would be pretty cool! God knows there were enough red Donzis present for AOTH 2007. Might as well made it a dedicated red event.

Soooo, if you were shopping as I was in '87; would you settle on a
22' testa @ $45,485? Or would you do as I did - settle on a 20' Minx
@ $24,750? You know what I did, I posted a copy of the Minx invoice
under George's Minx # thread.

The '80's were excessive - the money was flyin' around, but some sanity
took hold from time to time.

Sub-Bass, Your 22 Classic 30th Anniversary Donzi is a very rare model. I believe it would rank right up there with the Testarosa models. I've seen an 18' Classic 30th for sale and also a long time attendee to our AOTH gatherings Sam who owns a 16' 30th. Have not had the pleasure of seeing a 22' until you displayed your pictures. That's one red Donzi I would consider if I had the dollars and a chance to buy one. Good luck with her!

I ran into an all red, gray interior one at a poker run up here. I'd seen it about 10yrs ago and it looked like crap then. Now it looked like a piece of crap + 10yrs of neglect. I don't think it'd ever seen a coat of wax in it's life.

I don't know if it was a testa. I've seen it twice this summer. If I see it again, I'll check the windshield for the sticker and get a #.

Those of you who know me know that I don't know much at all about the classic Donzi boats. Can someone tell me if this is a 22 classic? It is supposed to be one of a handful of Testa Rossa boats. It is for sale out on Lake Tahoe for not too much money. It sounds like it might be a bargin. I think that the owner bought this boat brand new from Donzi and the original paperwork says that it is a Testa Rossa but I am not sure. I am not in the market for a classic boat but if anyone is and you think this is the real deal. Let me know and I will put you in touch with the owners. Thanks.

OK. I talked to Bob the owner of the 22 Classic Testa Rossa. He said go ahead and put his numbers out here on the registry and tell everyone that the 1st 18k takes it home. He is retireing in a few months and he just wants to sale the boat. He bought the boat with 100 hrs on it and it now has 200 hrs. It has a 454 with a Bravo drive. He says that he has all of the original paperwork and the original bill of sale.

His home number is 805-466-4256
His cell is 805-769-6697

Good Luck!!!!
