Tom,
Looks like a baby. I own one. But I can tell you...who ever did that to that boat should have there head checked. They ruined it. There were a very small number of these produced. Thats a shame....

Scott,

Any chance you could post a pic of yours?:crossfing: I'd like to see what they looked like in their original condition.

Well, although the Baby Donzi purists may be cringing, I think that is a pretty cool looking boat. Was it sponsored by Coke? I'll bet it isn't a stock 4.3 2 bbl V6, with all that extra airscoop stuff over the hatch. Seats look more modern as well. And the drive is more modern than would have been for the original era of that boat.
Ya know, if that thing showed up in the water at the Hometown Gathering, EVERYONE would be standing around it taking pictures, and it would be the talk of the weekend.
I like a nicely modified performance boat. Especially in red!

I think it's cool too. IMO, it's not that radical of a change.

To me it looks like a Baby if Donzi made it today.

Anyone lucky enough to own one can do to it whatever they want I guess. That is a cool looking little boat, but if I had one, I'd try very hard to keep it as close to this as possible....

Being there were only slightly more than 10 made I think.

This was MP's F-14. I pulled it up to my parents house in Lady Lake, Fl for the new owner. I took a couple of pics of it. It was a real cool little boat. It had an 80hp Renault 4cyl motor.

the owner told me it was built for don aronow in 1985 so he could race it in florida on a lake, Apache boats in tampa did the renovation in 2005, it is a 4.3l engine. the guy who owns it has never been out in it and has a ton of money in it. he saw my boat on saturday and then told me about his.

he does not know much more about it than that. he seemed sure it was 14"11"

Ok...a few things. If it was built for Don Aronow in 1985 it must have been an old hull not a new one. The original 14 mold was destroyed back in the late
60's or so. It was destroyed with a hull inside also. There was an extreamly small amount of the Baby 14's made. It would be interesting to know the hull #. Here is a few pictures of some....enjoy

Lenny,
All 14 Babys had a right hand helm. Mine does also.

I am looking for some performance numbers for these.

We will almost certainly be putting in a 3.0L Mercruiser alpha pkg. in his F14, pictured above. I gotta believe this engine has been swapped in these hulls before. Any ideas on what to expect?

What engine does Blue Bird have? What kinds of speeds does it do?

There was also an F14 with a "327" in it I remember hearing about....obviously overkill but did it even "work" or was the weight/power/balance simply ridiculous/stupid ??

These never even came with a V6 from the factory, correct? They were all 4 cyl. of some type or another??

I do not believe the "V-6" was even invented yet...

Buick had a V6 in the mid 1960s as did GMC. I believe that some V6s had been marinized by the late 60s.

Blue Bird has a 3.0 with an Alpha. The boat runs 55mph. Thats about as fast as I would like to go in one. I will be putting a 3.0 in mine also But, I will be running an Alpha SS. This will allow me to lower the center of gravity and still keep the drive at stock height.

Lenny, Buick had the original 225 V6 before you were born... well maybe not that long..

the GMC V6 was a 305, 351, 401 and 478.....

Scott, Alpha SS great choice. Should last forever in this low-stress situation.

Have you ever ridden in Blue Bird? Reason I ask, does it seem like you are riding (bobbing) around like a cork or does it truly seem fairly stable with a nice deep vee drive?

55 with a 3.0. Makes ya wonder what the coca cola billboard would do with a 4.3? (Besides porpoise):dolphin:

I have ridden is Blue Bird many of times. Its one of the most stable boats I have been in believe it or not. Its like being in a boat on rails.

OK...shopping for a new or nearly new 3.0L and regular alpha drive. What ratio should we be looking for?

Who has...or where can I download the transom template?

1:50, any Merc dealer will have the paper template. It is an Alpha cut-out. And nowadays, the ALPHA and the Bravo are the same hole.

Hey guys I’m new to the Donzi family. I recently bought a 1990 sweet 16.
But I think I know what Baby Donzi 14’ you guys are talking about. Does anyone have pictures or info on the last owner ?
