Hey all,
I wanted to shoot a quick question out to the collective to see what the largest engine anyone has put into a 16 was.
My cousin and I are thinking of switching up his 16c and putting in a 383 Mercruiser 6.2 MPI with a bravo drive. Can this be done?
If so what gear ratio should we look at and what speed might be obtained?
Cheers,
MB

I've heard rumors about a big block 16 on Lake George? I'm sure other members can confirm or deny this. 16 with a 383, sounds like fun. I think smokediver's 16 had that motor.

i think there is a pic somewhere of a blown big block 16 ... yikes ! i didn't have a factory merc 383 and the 6.2 is actually 377 c.i. the bravo is really needed for the torque the 383's make .. imo ... I think if i had to do it over again ... a nicely built 350 , like rootsy had in his 16 ... with an alpha ss ... he might chime in on this post ..if you have a bravo , the 383 is a nice set up .. speeds should be in the mid 60's with the merc motor but for a lot less money , you can have a really nice low to mid 400 horse engine with a gob of torque ... and that will put you in the low 70's:yes: i bet with an alpha ss close to 80 is realistic .. or a shorty bravo ... the 16 responds well to reduced drag ...

Mine's the biggest....................PITA that is!:bonk:
Yes there was a blown big block with 3 foot long tabs, there were some great pictures maybe someone knows the link. I am waiting for someone to put a stock 350 Magnum hooked to a Blackhawk in a 16 say mid 80's with dynamite reliability, that would be a killer combo and the counter rotating props would make the boat so much safer at high speed. I had a 16 for 3 years when it got loose it got real loose!!!

I remember a 16 on ebay about 3-4 years ago with a blown BB. It was black with flames painted on the deck. No rear hatch as the engine sat half way out.

Ed Donnely told me of a 16 he had, I think it was blown, maybe he'll chime in.

George is right. I had a Gale Banks twin turbo with a volvo 270 and E lower.
A pad and step helps to control it at higher speeds. Big tabs are a must too.
Power steering is a no brainer ( wish I had it in my 16)
I won't tell the speed as tripledigits has that forum..Ed
P.S. can't post pic of engine as it was posted on another thread, but I can show bottom
Hey Southern Boy that is SNOW!:propeller:

When is a 16 no longer a 16? If you cut that much out of the keel, Then it isn't a 16 Donzi anymore. Its something else... that's way past what I'd consider a pad.....
:eek!:
