Not what it seems-

Grizz said in another thread my wife would be happiest when the Donzi is done, man was he right! Here is what I go through on a daily basis-

My wife is just like "why?". She looks at it like "John you took a perfectly good boat and now it doesn't run", "why does it need to go 60 mph because I thought 47 mph was fast enough?", "how much money are you spending on this, never mind, I don't even want to know", "are we ever actually going to ride in the boat?", "how many damn propellers do you need?!", "why are all your Donzi freinds named stuff like Mad Poodle, Buizilla, Rootsy and Big Grizz?" and my favorite- "are you looking at porn on you computer or are you talking to Donzi guys all day on your computer?"

She got her way though, I promised to buy a family oriented cuddy or deck boat for skiiing, entertaining, etc.... So, I just e-mailed her a pic of a Donzi 28zx. Even said I would put a wakeboard tower on it. She was not amused!:):):):)

She did find a Formula cuddy (26 or 28) I think that she liked. Once agian, I asked if I could supercharge the 496 and add thru-hull. She was not amused!:):):):)

Damn, I love that woman!

George, did you go through this when you did your Minx?:bonk:

BTW, even though she gets her family boat, she said I could always have a Donzi, how do I break it to her that I want 2 of them?

I kept her totally in the dark about how much I spent on it. A lot of the hardware I found I could run through the business.

I have found that it's better to ask for forgivness than permission.
It will be easier once you get her the cuddy. Thats what I did.

When I got 2 I told here That I would get rid of one as soon as Ideside which one I like best. That was many years ago. Its not my fault that I have a very difficult time making up my mind. At this point she likes both of them, especially when she goes for a ride in other non Donzi boats. I also give her the keys to go for a ride by herself. I have waited as long as an hour at the launch ramp waiting for her to drive 1 mile from our dock. I will admit she does understand y love affair with Donzi boats, she knew me back in 1968, when I lived at the jersey shore and was in my Donzi every day(literally). My other loves were speed and motorcycles she also understands..

I am really kidding for the most part. She knows I have enjoyed working on it and she actually likes to drive it some, but is a little intimidated. She really likes our jet boat and likes to drive it on the Snake river. Has a draft of about 2 inches when on a plane. Funny thing is, that she really wants to go to a Donzi gathering and meet many of you as I do. She knows who most of you are through me and we even discussed signing her up on the boards but need a good screenname. We are planning on AOTH and Powell next year.

Another thing is that she really likes the Formula, which is kind of a performance boat. We are trying to have kids and she wants a cuddy to hang out in. She likes the 26 SS which is fine by me as long as I can get a 496 w/bravo III, and god bless her, she is just fine with that!

She also knows my love of Donzi's. She knows I have wanted one since we sold our 68 sporter when I was 10 years old (I think I cried:)). She is patient and understanding, but thinks I am a little Donzi nuts!

She doesn't sound any different then my wife. The truth is most of the wives of board members that I have met are about the same. They seem to put up with us no matter what. I use to have a wife who didn't understand. This wife does and is a keeper. The truth is that my wife adds to a lot of my good boating experiences.

Donzi's and wives are and can be a wonderful thing if you've been lucky enough to find that woman who loves it every bit as much as you do. Case in point and one of the best examples I can provide is the Somervilles. Todd and Jill were born to be riding in a Donzi. She has learned the trailering part to perfection. She allows Todd to do most of the driving of their 22 SE. How-ever I am sooooooo looking forward to next years AOTH when Jill brings her 18' Classic, again a bit more than your average Classic, to AOTH VIII.

Randy & Barbara Carabelli another fine example of two that know and understand the Donzi Mystic. I know there are many more couples out there that every weekend have a routine together that makes some of these guys at the launch ramp look like something out of our high school driving classes.

For you ladies who are married to a Donzi owner. Don't let him or the boat intimidate you. Ask him to let you behind the wheel and feel how the boats perform. Maybe not on a weekend, but a quiet evening after work. Once you learn what it's like to drive a Corvette convertable on water, your husband may never get back behind the wheel. LOL Go to a large parking lot with the truck and boat trailer attached to each other. Pick a parking space and try to back the trailer into it. After a little bit of time and practice, you'll be able to place that trailer anywhere it needs to go and with the confidence of a seasoned pro. When a couple has this down on the launch ramp, it is like a dance that never ends. The whole outing goes like silk.

This year at AOTH, we had a young man propose to his girlfriend. This young man spent more time working on his boat during the weekend than they did riding and enjoying the boat. His girlfriend was by his side the whole time and to my knowledge never said a bad word about the problems. BTW, she said YES and I know that they too will develope a dance that works for them to enjoy their 22 Classic. It really is a beautiful thing to see.

Just thought that our ladies who put up with us and enjoy our boats with us needed a little encuragement. Don't let that guy stand there and bark out orders at ya either. Make him take the time to teach you what needs to happen when and where. You'll both enjoy your days on the water so much more!

Margi and I are the ulitmate boat ramp team. She spent a summer 7 years ago working for a whitewater company. One of her jobs was backing down a 1 ton van with a huge trailer full of rafts on the boat ramps. She can tow and back a trailer better than anyone I know.

When we camp, I tow the Donzi and she tows the Jet Boat (I have and F-350m she has a F-150, I told her she could have any car she wanted and instead of some Range Rover or Lexxus SUv, she wanted a new F-150, what a woman!). We can put both boats in the water in less than 5 minutes. Take out is the same, just drop her off at the dock and the trailer is in the water in minutes. It is funny to watch people still trying to back in after we have put two on the trailer!

I guess when I said she is a little intimidated about driving the Donzi, she is just getting use to it. Adjusting tabs, drive and throttle is not something you get your first time. She is getting better and last night after showing this thread to her she said that she really loves our Donzi, she even has her own Donzi t-shirt!

I think I am going to start a thread in "whatever you want to talk about" about ramp edicate. Man, two weekends ago some people really pissed me off at the ramp!

My wife doesn't do the trailer back up thing, she does the boat on the trailer job. She loves it when the basshole(AKA bass boat driver) guys start yelling at their wives and drives the boat on the trailer without any issued than stands up and says" your right hun This 690 HP engine is easy to drive." we pull out I bring over the latter She climbs out and we drive away. As we leave the ramp she looks at me and says how did I do. I smile and say another Basshole bites the dust.

funny thing....

my daughter found a 2004 260BR at Full Tilt Marine in MD.... same colors as that.... 420hp CWC with a DPS or DPX and an arch.... yup, you read that drive stuff right... I'm not a red hull fan...

We are looking at used ones, new are riduculously expensive. We have found some 04's with less than a 100 hours w/ 496 and bravo 3 in the 50,000-60,000 range. One big plus, although it means little to others, is that we kinda of stay in the Aronow family.:)

It won't be red, already have a red boat.

So, Buiz, I have you approval on the Formula?:crossfing:

I love Formula's.... and have had a few, first was 1971 233 / 302-225/250 drive.... my last 1995 252BR-454-B3 was a great boat, but the next one, if there is one, WILL have a walk thru transom pad, instead of jumping the pad to get to the platform every time, and MORE power. I think a 496/375/B3 260BR with good exhaust is the ticket... Once you own a B3, you'll NEVER go back to a single prop drive again... :boat:

I think at my altitude (or it it attitude LOL), I need the 425 horse. I use this as an excuse with Margi. "Honey, you know if we get one we will need the 425 496 mag becuase it will be slow if we don't get it. We will also need the thru hull" Works great!
