What should the timing be on a Chrysler 318 in the Century MKII? Just doing some routine tuning and thought I should check this. Also, what should the point gap and dwell be?

Cheers

Try .018 Gap On The Points .

Thanks Don, Craig, for the points data. Will check it out tomorrow.

Craig, yes, thanks. Got it.

I know now there is definately a miss under load. Sounds fine at idle but when you crank it up, the steering wheel shakes and I can feel a shudder, a miss, almost like 2 wires are swapped and it's running on 6 cyls, and while hanging off the back of the boat, can smell very rich smell.

Will try to find firing order and check that first, then move on to compression etc.

Cheers

Paul

.018 is a good startup point, BUT a 30* dwell setting is far more accurate, if you have access to a dwell meter... I won't bore you with my knowledge of 318-340-360 engines, (my first car was a brand new 1970 340 Duster) but trust me, that's the numbers to shoot for... set timing to 12* after you set the points dwell to 30*.

Maybe the Century stars are mis-aligned in the universe...or something.
