Made it up to the Seaport today w/ my Dad for the annual wooden boat show. A little light on quantity but heavy on the quality - Hacker, Chris-Craft, Herreshoff, Nevins, S&S.

Hope y'all enjoy some "other" classics:

Here's the Barrellback, 1942, 23'

Canvasback, a 1909 60' Herreshoff Launch - only a little over 10' wide....

Built for a NYYC Commodore to ferry him to and from his "big" boat!

A neat old Penn Yan - this guy was rushing me hard to join ACBS, says "Classic Glass" is the next big thing and gentlemen, we are in on the ground floor! Or is it the basement which explains why most of us are under water

Several very nice large, older sailboats:

Brilliant and Black Watch, both S&S and Nevins, both recently restored, ready for another 70 years.....Thanks Olin!

Couple of 100 year old Herreshoff:
Cara Mia is a NY30, Neith is a cutter from 1907

A few Concordia Yawls too, designed by Ray Hunt, later of Bertram fame:

A very nice Dragon from 1967, same year as my boat! These used to be an Olympic class and they still get huge fleets in Europe.

Nice old Lightning in the background.

And finally, speaking of Lightnings, NUMERO UNO, #1 from 1938. The Seaport would like to build a large, year-round exhibition hall and would likely display boats like this rigged up. This is a hugely historic boat!

And almost as cool, the first Laser, hull #0, acquired from Bruce Kirby.

All in all a great show and a worthwhile destination. All that was missing was come of the great sedans, cabin cruisers from the golden age, Elco, Dawn, Consolidated, Chris-Craft etc.... Maybe next year. I'll be back

Looks like a good show.
Many of the power boats were probably here in Mt Dora this March.
It's important to be familiar with these boats.....this is where we came from.

Great pic's. Thanks for sharing. We went to that boat show a few years back, I remember eating breakfast every morning at "Kitchen Little". :)

As I understand it, Donzi's were born from some of the "stem" cells of these early boats.

Almost forgot this one - don't know why except the owner's rep wouldn't let anyone on the boat, with or without shoes! Not sure if I like the torpedo stern but it would have been a very civilized way to commute. Built in 1937, at least some people still had money during the Great Depression.

Aphrodite does, or did, live here in Florida and has a very colorful history. I think the Navy or Coast Guard used it during WWII and at one time had a pair of 1200 HP Packards in it.
If I remember correctly, it is now powered w/a couple of BBC's.

Now that's a cool boat...wish we drew more stuff like that at Tahoe! The smaller boats are great, but I love the bigger stuff like these old commuters.

BTW - anybody know what the feature is at Tahoe next month?
