Will the transom on a 2000 model 23zf hold a pair of Mercury 250efi's? I'm looking at one with a single 250, but, I would like the peace of mind that twins will give me. The boat will primarily be used offshore. I have access to a counter rotating engine of the same make/model, and it would save me from having to dump 20K+ on a pair of 150's or 175's. I'm not interested in top speed.. I'm just trying to put twins on the boat at minimal cost.

This article states that 150 twins is the max that boat is rated for. Twin 250's would be a stretch. Just my .02.
Good luck,

economically, it makes no $$$$ sense to repower that boat with twins, your better off selling that one, and buying one with twins already, you'll be thousands of $$$ ahead doing that.

For piece of mind just add on a 10 to 15 HP "kicker" motor." I would think a single 250 would power that boat fine and if you have trouble use the "kicker" for a slow troll home.

Just how far offshore will you be in a 23 foot CC?

This photo does not show it well, but the "kicker" is mounted on a bracket that swings up when the motor is not in use - no drag. Swing it down to use.
