Do they bolt up on a regular upper?

Yes BUT!

They are fine on moderate HP apps but do not last long when you put some power to them, in a standard Alpha the power is applied to the forward gear which pushes against the forward the gear case bearing. CR units use the reverse gear and apply their force against the rear bearing carrier which is threaded into the case, over the years we had several push the guts out the back. I would be very leery putting more then 225-50HP against one unless you baby the heck out of it.

I have a CR Alpha behind my 260 h.p. SBC. I've had no issues, and I really haven't babied it. You just have to pay attention to re-entry.

True on a light weight boat they will survive reasonably well, on 22 single or 25 & up dual engine forget it. Ask any dealer his thoughts on Alpha lefties, they are considered one of the best annuities!
