Doesn't have the beautiful lines of a Donzi, but this is much more in my price range, and I like it - seems like a fun and unique ride. Anyone familiar with the Mark II?

Looks a lot like the catalog boat from that year:

I'm guessing this was Century's answer to the 16, right? If it's a strong runner, and the hull is solid, I'll go for it. Run it this season, then make a project out of it next winter - do some restoration and paint it a more pleasing color. Get it looking something like this eventually: http://www.antiqueboat.com/boats/MoreInfo.asp?SKU=rede17

Looks like the seller won't be around til next weekend, and boat should be de-winterized by then. If anyone from the Greenwood Lake area wants to meet up (hull experts? :lookaroun:) I'll let you know when I'll be going to see it.

I emailed Matty about it last night, he has seen the boat on the lake, but not in a year or so. I'm trying to find out what marina it's at, but haven't heard back from the seller yet.

That looks like a fun rig! Good luck with your pursuit and keep us posted even if it's not a Donzi.

Thanks Penbroke. I'll definitely stick around here. There doesn't even seem to be a Century forum that I can find. :boggled:

The Century Boat Club doesn't have a forum that I know of. You can email an officer...centuryboatclub.com. They're real helpful.

I believe the Cheetah MkII was introduced in 1970. I can't find my brochure...

The early ones were red with black upholstery. My buddy's - like I believe all v-drive versions - had a small block Mopar. His is a '70 with a 340.

I hope its built better than a friend's 1978 Century Cortez. They made nice wood in the day but the glass from the 70's & 80's didn't earn much of a reputation. His had no stringer system to speak of, transom was not glassed, just painted and it felt like taking a ride in jello. It flexed so much a teak step splintered when he hit a small wake.
I like 340's though.

No, seller responded once, said he's been busy moving. I haven't heard from him in a couple of weeks.

But...I found a nice looking '79 Checkmate Predictor that I might go for - seller is asking $2400. I'll have to take a 6 hour drive to OH for it though.

Looks like a sweet deal for 2400, make sure to check compression, could be a steal.

Good luck,

Rich

P.S. Pick a Sunday in July or August, shoot me a pm and take mine for a spin.

Owner says compression checked out fine not long ago, and has only been used about 10 times since. I think this might be the one. I'll have to drive to Youngstown, OH...:bonk: At least it's do-able in a day though.

And yeah, that would be great to come up there for a ride Rich, thanks! I usually have sailing races on Sundays, but I'll figure out a day that we're off.

I finally heard back from the seller of the MK II. He said it's in the water and running well, and his price is $3500 firm. I hope he can meet this weekend. :propeller:

Here are the pics he had on Craigslist...

Hi Jim,

Looks nice. Good luck!!

I much prefer that shifter arrangement to mine. I think I may change mine to that style one day.

Let us know what happens..and we can compare notes. What engine? Is it the Paragon Gears V-drive and tranny?

Cheers

Paul

It has a 340 and Paragon v-drive. Do the engine and drive seem pretty easy to work on to you?

The trailer looks a little sketchy, but as long as it's up to the 45 min trip here, that's fine. I won't be towing it around much otherwise.

Yes, the rear engine covers once removed, make access a breeze. There is plenty of space to get in the engine compartment for spark plug changes etc. The bench seat over the drive lifts out leaving completely unrestricted access to the back of the engine and drive. It's the easiest boat to work on that I have had.

Keep us posted.

It has a 340 ...

imho, there't weren't no bad 340s ever made!
