Suppose you just came into (or freed up) +/- $90K that you could spend without making payments. You could buy a brand new Shelby 22 or a 'Vette Z06.

Which would you choose and why?

I'll start. I'd pick the 'Vette. I have plenty of fun with my present boats and can't imagine that the Shelby would be 4 times the fun. I would get a LOT more use out of the 'Vette since I drive about 30K miles/year.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!!

The '07 Z06 is a hardtop.

Shelby.
One of my main reasons for getting a Donzi is that the Insurance & tickets was costing me way too much for my sports car.:yes:

The Vette, it'll hold its value better and has a better resale market.

I wouldn't buy the 22-Shelby unless it was at or below cost. Great boat but there is just too many on the market right now; boattrader is saturated with them. Its like my boat, it sat as an unsold new unit for two years until I bought it, $20K under dealer cost & $50K under suggested retail; too good of a deal to pass on.

No Brainer CORVETTE.........I could make my current 22 classic into a shelby 22 if I wanted to....but I will most likely just drop in a Merc 525 some day after I run the sh.. out of the 496HO:wink::wink::wink:

The Vette. I already own enough boats, and I've never owned a Vette. My dad told me back in 1978 if I wanted a Vette, I better buy it before I get married. That was the Silver Anniversary Edition in 78.

All Z06's are hardtops.

Without a doubt, the most bang for your buck would be the Z06.

My problem is I have run out of room for parking my boats, vette, bikes, motorcoach, trailers, etc..

Isn't the Z06 $72k? You can do both if you don't mind not having brand new stuff. You could get a 2000+ 22C with a reliable turn-key 496HO and wait a year and pickup a Z06 that someone can't make the payments on.

I'm out of the sports car scene right now- no tickets on the water, insurance is cheaper, and I have more fun on the boat. I use my motorcycle for my land speed trills.

That may be the MSRP, but as far as I've seen, the Z's have been commanding above sticker. If supply catches up with demand, maybe that will change.

PS: Buying used wasn't one of the poll options.

Well that's easy- I wouldn't pay $18k over MSRP. That goes right into the dealer's pocket. And when supply does catch up with demand, the blue book value of the car doesn't reflect the extra you would have paid for it.

OK, I see where you are coming from, but I was speaking in generalities. I figured a $10K markup and sales tax (which doesn't go into the dealer's profit). That's been the Z06's pattern these days. It appears that the Shelbys are priced the same.

My point is that both toys are priced somewhat the same and are marketed to the same potential buyer.

You just have to ASSume that both toys have the same price of admission.

OK, well since you already have TWO boats- I'd get the vette :convertib:

Funny, I just stumbled onto this old thread as well. I also bought both. Found a garage queen 2006 Z06 with 2,500 miles on it and drove that home to Mass from Missouri about 2 years ago. Then I bought a lightly used (100 hours) 18 foot classic. Both were in as new condition for a fraction of their original cost.

Love them both

With 90k I could build a tailored 22C I'd rather have than the 2007 Shelby boat.
