I am in the process of re-painting my volvo 270 drive. Have pulled the drive off the boat, would like to remove the steering fork to remove the paint off the transom shield.

Is the steering fork pressed in? I have checked my volvo repair book & diagrams they have offered little help.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Once the tiller arm is off, the fork will slide out with a little pressure.

Take the clamping bolt in the tiller arm out completely. Don't just loosen it.

Also check the splines on the steering fork,,they might be a little worn..

I still have been unable to remove the steering fork for my 270 drive. Small amounts of pressure have been applied and I still cant brake it loose.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

Is the tiller arm free??? It will not budge if the arm is frozen to the shaft, like Frank said take the bolt completely out then take a chisel and tap it into the slot that should free it up. I have had to do that and still let them sit over night with penitrating oil, one good thig the splines should be in great shape!!!
