It is the Sea Star that was poorly installed in the Teleflex hole, all you need to do is to find (Good Luck) or make a proper plate to cover the old holes and securely hold the helm. I would make one out of 1/4" aluminum have it coated to protect it as I doubt if you will find and original Sea Star plate. Filling the hole and redoing the dash is the other option.

Look under the dash to see if theirs hydrolic lines attached to the helm, then you should know if its a seastar helm.....the one on ebay may be two pieces and you can remove the black outter plastic ring...the helm isnt installed properly and that plastic ring may brake again if the helm isnt solid..

well if the trip peice will work i can make a bracket to hold the helm so it doesnt move, i do not beleive that it is hydrolic, when i was under the dash durring the week i dont remember seeing any hydrolic lines. But i am going to look better when the weather breaks, right now its kinda snowing and raining at the same time.

Believe Poodle & Me it is a Sea Star and an oldie! I have installed a ton of them over the years, they did make an adapter plate have no clue if one is still available, I think it would be easier to fab one then to hunt one up. I had mentioned Aluminum, I have also made them out of heavy (1/2") fiber glass and gel coated them, a lot depends on your expertise and what is on hand.

Here is its match mate http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Sea-Star-I-hydraulic-helm_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ31283QQihZ004QQite mZ140105797010QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

If you are referring to the cup part of the wheel it has nothing to do with the problem. The adapter plate that is there is in bad shape, what I have done in the past is to make plate a bit larger then what you in either aluminum or F/G that I through bolt with 1/4-20 counter sunk screws with lock nuts and fender washers then I through bolt the helm through that. It needs to be strong and secure the helm is your hand hold when the crap hits the fan!

ok i thought that was only a trim peice (the part thats broke) looks like im going to have to do a little more investigating on the boat to see whats going on in there. I deff dont want that comming a-part when im cruisin around
