Finished the winter project and learned it is so easy to tear things apart but difficulty and labor intensive to reinstall. Here is list of improvements.
1-AFR 195 Eliminator heads. Took 3 mos. to get them. 65 cc chambers
2-Weld water ports on EMI exh. No more water leaks between exh. & risers.
3-Rebuffed ss risers.
4-Tricked out valve covers w/ red stripes.
5-Install #8an fuel inlet and ss hose fuel line.
6-Swapped 180 stat to a 160*
7-Installed Edel. Performer Airgap intake, Endura coated.
8-Move Alpha shift interrupter to hidden area of transom.
9-Check and install shorter pushrods, Trick flow.
10-Used .015 shim head gasket for a .038 quench.
11- All ARP hardware and fasteners.
With a Comp 270H cam, Afr said I should exspect a 40 hp increase. Modifications cost was around $1600.You figure out the cost per hp. Have'nt put it in the water yet. Pics below. Jim

With the Vortec heads I gps at 71 mph. Hopefully will see an increase with the AFR heads. Most of the hardware was on this engine last yr. and maintaining the shine was not too difficult except for the valve covers (alum.). Thanks for the positive comments. I must say this is the nicest engine my son and I have put together. Mucho pesos in this build. Keep those pension checks coming.:) :) :)

$1600 for the mods? Maybe without the cost of the heads....

Post a ride report when you can.

Attended AOTH last yr. and had a great time. This yr. have to stay close to home to address health issues. Hopefully attend other events, maybe Alabama.

Zimm- - Did'nt mean to imply "ALL" of the mods cost 1600. Only the cost of the heads, gaskets and pushrods. Rest of the items I had in stock and others used from previous build in 05. All labor was done by Jim and Jimmy, my son. My 18C is my one and only hobby. Some say "labor of love", I say good therapy. There is not a day that goes by without visiting the garage where my 18 is stored. Even for a quick look. I got this Donzi thing bad.:eek!:

Love that shot from above...... nice shiny parts!!!

How do you explain to people that you got caught boating with a "DUI"???? :bonk:

Looks great! I know about the Donzi bug. After seeing all the boats at the miami boat show, I decided to blow $15k on my 22C. I rationalize it by saying it's a drop in the bucket compared to new 28 or 30 footer. And I'll have some serious hardware and hopefully be flirting with 90mph when I'm all done.

The water ports are only on the exh. manifold side and not on the ss risers. The pic below is withe the four water ports welded shut. I understand Emi no longer produces the exh. w/ ports. Having trouble posting pic. Sorry
