Gentlemen, am considering options to keep my '97 4.3L sixteen out of the water at my dock. As I already have 2 elec. davits, is it safe to hang my Donzi using the front and rear deck rings ???? or----are the rings used for marina maint. purposes only ??? Thanx for your input. Bob L.

In the old days they did it but the mounts were different thah they are today. I have seen issues with both on modern boats and old ones alike. Straos are also a bad idea because the flex the deck after time and crack it.

It works great, have done it for 3 years now. Had to beef up the rear eye bracket, replaced it with a steel one vs aluminum. In a 16 the stock one should be ok, just watch it closely during the first lift. Mine didn't fail it just bent. They use the same bracket in all the classics of this era late 90s-current, its not beefy enough for a heavy 22 big block but Im sure it is for a 16. The front eye is beautifully glassed into the stringers and I have never had any problem there. Here is the problem I had with the rear eye.

Let her hang, so nice to have it high and dry when not in use.

My rear bracket is different from Pismo's and like BG said they changed through the years.

Yes the 86, 87 era had a nice steel bracket lower in the transom.

My 18C has been hanging from the rings for 21 years with no problems.
Note the industrial lifting straps thru the rings so the hooks don't scratch the chrome.

If you hang it, go with the straps like Dave mentioned. It will keep the chains / cable off the deck and you'll be able to clear the windshield if you have one.

Yes, I started using small lengths of rope to keep the hooks of the deck.

Here's a link for the slings I used. The 1" wide eye and eye slings worked well. It was about $150 for the pair. The 2" wide slings won't fit if I recall correctly.
