the saga continues ... blew another upper gear set .... if i had to do it over again i would have kept the 4.3 ... nahhhhh... who am i kidding !!! I am thinking that i need to bite the bullet and look around for a bravo ... the 383 is just making a little too much torque for the alpha ... i really wish there wasn't so much torque in the cruising rpm's . that's where i am breaking them , right around 3000 rpm ...

 That sucks and really shouldn't be happening just cruisin along at 3000. Now I know I'm gonna need a Bravo.

I know its more power than Alpha is built to handle, but at cruising 3000 RPM?
Hole shots and re-entry is what USUALLY destroys them.

Who is doing the assembly? At this point, I would question that. I think an Alpha with HD gearset could handle anything a 383 in a 16 could give you.

If you are not hammering it I would go along with Joe on who is doing the work, There must be quite a few shops down by you that do it right. I would do a post for Reco's!!

Smoke, the absolute god o drives is here in Miamuh.. I have the HD gear sets in stock, could drop it off to him next week if you want.. I'll be in Golden Gate Easter Sunday with an MT truck..
I thank you but i should clarify just a bit here .. The hd gearset , the 1.47 ratio , would have held up . I had a small leak in the ujoint bellows . the other drive sets were the 1.62 ratio . I cooked two of those . one with the warmed over 350 and one with the 383 ... havin said that , thanks ... Mr Poodle , i have something here for you ! i am working easter sunday .. stop by the firehouse on bayshore dr .. same road where you got the motor . we need to get a pic of you sliding down the pole !!!! :cool!:
