I'm looking for input.
I would like to add power steering to the 18C.
It has a 280T behind a 454 with 14 x 25 ss prop (a real man has to hold the wheel currently,
Girl freind is not happy)
Someone has to have ideas for me, please.

Hi sda811. My 18 was a real handfull with a teleflex cable. Lots of play between the steering wheel and out drive. When I put in an internal hydraulic setup, the improvement was unbelievable. I used a seastar helm and unbalanced 9" cylinder and now can steer with one hand at any speed.
Torque steer is gone and the greater volume side of the cylinder helps turning the wheel into the props rotation.

Mine's a handful also and my wife didn't like to drive it becasue of the steering (and she's comfortable with boats). So, I'm in the process of installing a used internal volvo power steering unit right now along with the 280T transom assembly. The unit I'm installing came off a boat with the 280T drive. Even found new OEM parts for it (guess they call them knuckle joints or something like that) I've seen the volvo units on ebay in the past. BigGrizzly installed a teleflex/seastar system in his Corsican, with electric power steering pump and loves it. Check this site for a thread on it.

I put the Teleflex PA electric on mine and I can drive at wot with one finger. My wife loves it als It no longer darts to one side when you pull the throttle back. It has given my Corsican a new life, so it is no longer up for sale! BTW my engine is a Ford 351 ford clevland, with a good amount of power with the same lower you have

I've been piecing together a teleflex hydaulic external steering system for my 280. It's not a power system but it should be an improvement over the cable steering. I'll try to get some pictures to work.
