I am planning on installing some new vortec heads on my 87 18'C when she comes out of storage next month. I was wondering what would be a good cam to go with. I plan on keeping the stock exhaust this season. the heads have 2.02/1.60 vavles and have been machined for up to .520 lift. Also what would be a good vortec intake to use that is the same height as the current 350 mag one?
Thanks Jim

What year is engine, I know boat is 87. Vortech heads? Fuel injection or carbed? If carbed, what size? Intake? What is current cam?

I have a 1997 350. Replaced the heads with Vortech ones from Summitt racing, intake, carb, and camshaft. I put a Comp 264 in mine and pretty pleased with results. Vortech heads were the biggest performance mod I did. Engine is probably good for 315-325 hp at sea level, but I run at 7000ft so the Vortech heads definetly let it breat a little better.

Some of the other board members, like Rootsy, really helped me out on my setup.

The engine is a bone stock 87 350mag carburated. I have no idea what cam is in it I just figured for the hour that it takes to pull the motor I might as well change the cam.

It is a flat tappet motor...

Sorry to put you on the spot Jamie, but you did really help me out bigtime!

Got a few new shirts for ya, made a cool donzi.org one. How is the tractor show?

Jim, some of the members like Rootsy, Big Grizz, JW, and others can really point you in the right direction.

I believe it is a flat tappet. I don't know much about engines. I'm an electrician, my apprentice that is working with me right now has offered to help me with the work. He is a certified mechanic that use to work at a dealership before starting the apprenticeship.

Jim in this case Rootsy is the best bet. I have seen what he can do and have enough personal discussions with him to know he would never steer you wrong, All he does is keep you from making the mistakes we have all made at great personal expense.
