slamdry, where are you going to run her? Is she in running condition? If so you should plan on going to the Lake George Donzi Dust-off. Check it out on this site under events-gatherings. I'm pretty new to this also, owned mine a bit over a year. There is alot of Donzi expertise on this site and at the Dust-Off. I live in Queensbury and work in Clifton Park, so am not to far away. By the way I couldn't view your picture.
Post any of your technical questions under the performance section. Looking foreward to see your new toy.

the boat should be in good running condition, i was told it ran in the fall and i baught it from a freind that works at the lake george boat co. so if theres any troubles im sure i'll get help. Over all she is in decent shape, needs some loving but good, i'm going to get her so she is useable for this summer and then go more extensive over the winter.
Her jell has some stress cracks and the back motor hatch is ugle, i think it was parked bow in for awhile with no full cover, the front half is beautiful and the back is were the coat is the worst, but i will get her back were she needs to be. I want to fiund a few peices to make it better, like the aluminum manifolds instead of the cast like it has.
heres is a link to a gallery of pics, hopfully this will work for ya. Let me know what you think!!

On the spacer between the outdrive and the engine there should be a H&M casting on that tube. I would be really surprised if it were not a H&M, from the pictures.

on the inboard side of the transon or external side of the transom??

one other things, is the osco exhaust better then the aluminum, becuase i was going to try and find the aluminum ones, but if these are better i will keep these.

Ditto on all the praises above, nice find! That was a bit of ingenuity getting those not meant for the boat Osco's in there sure put a grin on my puss. Aluminum good move will lighten the azz end up quite a bit, the risers in there are for a much larger boat thats engine/engines sits farther below the water line. But being in fresh water they will more then likely last awhile, longer looking at the pic again it reminds me of a gal I used to know:shocking: Welcome to the D sickness you will have some real good times and meet some great people!

Brian,
Very nice boat, based on your input the boat appears to be a 1970 numbers matching boat and the 609th 16 built and is powered by a 235 HP Holman Moody Ford.
My boat is a 1970 16’ Ski Sporter powered by a 351 Holman Moody Ford W and a Volvo 250 outdrive.
The hull number is 16600, the motor has a stamped plate (like the one you have) with HM CP number EOHM-4042-1-RW-I/O 290 4V, and compression is 9.5 to 1. The outdrive number is Volvo PZ H2516770 B. All numbers match the original VIN foil sticker attached behind the rear seat cushion. The boat is very original including the original Rocket trailer, cockpit cover, and portside single seat with original orange upholstery and trim tabs. The Holman Moody marine gauges were replaced with new SW gauges in 2004 and I have the old gages at home put away on a shelf.
Two years ago I installed bunks to the original roller trailer and now it is a drive on drive off trailer that is very user friendly.
The top half of the motor and outdrive were overhauled in 2002 and the boat now runs on unleaded 89 pump gas. Motor also has a new starter, MSD 6AL ignition, Holley electric fuel pump, Holley 650 cfm double pump carburetor, and Mickey Thompson aluminum vale covers.
The numbers 16600 and 16609 indicate that our boats were the 600th and 609th boat DONZI built from 1964 thru in 1970. In other works they were low production boats that averaged less than 100 16-foot boats per year.
Congratulation you are going to love that boat.
Regards,
Bobby

just made a call
yes looks to be a holman moody engine

D0HM 1970 HOLMAN MOODY

3 302 BLOCK

106 106TH 302 BLOCK PRODUCED BY HM IN 1970

1 STANDARD MOTOR ROTATION

RW RAW WATER COOLING

I/O INBOARD OUTBOARD DRIVE

235 HP 4 BBL 9.5 TO 1
12 DEGREES TIMING

probably the original motor

you should find the h/m logo else where on the motor if it has not been replaced they could have replaced everything in front of the bell housing
like the intake manifold and the fron of the motor should have the h/m logo plus the elbows and thermostat housing

wow, were did you guys find all this info out on the boat?? just curious, im going to look for the other stamps next time i'm near the boat.
I'm very excited to use the boat, and well the ice just went out on the lake last sunday so that gets me even more excited and ambitios to get going on it :) It should need to much a tune up and oil change and it should be ready to use, then its all just cosmetic work from there out!!!

The ones on bobby D's boat are original

slamdry
05-05-2007, 09:10 AM
so its supposed to have a british flag and not the crest with the lion and tiger??

BigGrizzly
05-05-2007, 09:21 AM
The real problem is the stickers varied. some had the lion and Dolphin and some had the flag. The H&M also had a Holman & Moody sticker too but not all of them. I actually saw one with the stickers reversed, and it was original. the years are getting blury

slamdry
05-05-2007, 09:28 AM
ahhh i seeeee, so really i have no way of telling wha ti actually had, so i could pick and choose and put what i wanted on there.

what did the H&M sticker look like??

BigGrizzly
05-05-2007, 09:58 AM
yes sort of. we try to keep it the way the pictures in the brochures were.

Brian,
This picture was taken from the Ad Archive section under 1970 –1972 catalog.
The only difference is the color, my boat is orange and the catalog ski sporter is red, I still have the original seat and it is in very good condition. There is a good chance your boat came with the union jack and American flag set up. My boat does not have the HM plate attached to the Volvo outdrive like some did instead it says 250 like yours. You have a very nice boat and need to get rid of that setup and go back to the original.

I'm trying to find the peices to go back to original, its hard finding the h&m stuff, so i am really looking for anything alumin for the manifolds and well anything else that i can find as well, like the decals, i plan on redoing the hull over this winter, right ow i want to make it as nice as possible and run it.
