My donzi is from 67 and its paint job is nearing the point of needing to be redone.

How much (ballpark) would it cost to have this done?

Could it be done by myself?

Would it be important to keep the original color?

Where can I find more information on marine paints?

I had a Yellow 18, l972, original gel coat--was just beautiful. I would call it
a mellow yellow. I had a small mark, very small, so nothing would do but
the original, colour only--so I ordered it from Donzi. Did I say it was on the
bottom, under the water line;--are most Donzi owners finatics!

I opened the can--it was not the same; instead of a beautiful mellow yellow
it was a bright brassy yellow--of course this would not do, so I mixed in some
white--still not exact, but it was o/k--I gess what I wish to say is this--
the faded colour was much nicer than the original--so just pick a yellow
you like and paint it; but remember, your prep work is of the utmost
importance--and pay a professional to shoot it.
Also avoid using some super paint like, Imron, unless your l00% sure you
really like the colour, really like it, and if you decide to shoot it yourself
remember Imron is poisioness.

Good luck with your yellow Donzi. ken

imron correction,,they took the lead out of it so its not that dangerous to spray anymore but it still holds up well....

if you were going to do it yourself and if you are as picky as most of us about our boats on the board plan on tying you boat up for 2 yrs unless you have alot of time on your hands...once you get into it you will see their will be more problems then you really see and correcting them they seem to just take forever .. look up rootseys saga of the red mistress trend so you can see what your getting yourself into first...if i were to do it over i would have used gel instead of imron..its holding up vary well after 8yrs of 70mph blasts but you have to be careful not to chip it..gelcoat just holds up better ....
good luck

Shooting the paint isn't hard, it's the prep that kills you. I never held a paintgun in my hand before I painted my Formula 20 SC.
Here's a thread about it.

Hmm. Doesn't sound like something I'd want to get into

Ballpark, how much for a repaint and how long would I be without my boat?

Also, besides traditional wash and wax how can I get her to look clean and shiny once more?

question? In 1967 all were gel coated, no paint. So unless it was painted you could refinish it and not repaint. If it was paint5ed than matching is easy. I would hesitate to paint if I can. I did the paint trick once.

Read Randy's quote carefully--If you can't refinish the origional gel coat
satisfactorely -where's spell check!--then paint--keeping your boat with
the origional gel coat also helps it's value-I think a lot of members would
prefer original gel over shiny paint.
