Before I get into the new ride, a quick thanks to all you guys! I've been around for awhile but haven't posted too much. I've had several boats over the years but my knowledge base runs more to cars. I have spent hours on here learning from you guys & I really appreciate the info that has been posted. That search function has been my friend many times:yes: Now I just need to get out to the PK run & meet some of you folks :)

Anyway, I am a dyed in the wool Classic guy. I've had three since the early 90s, a '66 18', '86 22'(still around) & the '92 22' that I just sold. Today was ideal Classic weather. Mid 70s (sorry guys up North), very windy & rough as hell on the local lake. Decent sized swells(for a lake) & solid white caps. The kind of water that a 22 loves to run hard in if you got the sack. I didn't know what to expect out of the baby ZR. Hell, I hadn't even seen one in person until they delivered it on Sunday. I was VERY pleased. This was the perfect trial run. She was totally unfazed by the conditions. Literally a hands off cruise at 60 - solid as a rock with great response & a dead flat ride. This was the first '07 27' Mike @ Xtreme had delivered & even he was amazed @ the ride. He has spent a lot of time in the big ones & we both agreed that this boat is all ZR! It's a 496HO & we managed 72 out of the box with the stock 26p 4 blade. She was up around 5400 rpm plus so I'm guessing near the limiter. Mike wants to see around 5150 so we are going to start working the prop. Hopefully, that will get me around the 75 mark when we are finished. I'm thinking about a Maximus for day-to-day use for the better holeshot & keeping this as a top end prop. You guys are the gurus so tell me what you think. Probably do exhaust later as well.

It's obvious Donzi did their homework on the ZR hull design & the 27 feels great just like it's bigger brothers. Should make a great lake boat!

Post some pics. 72 on your 1st time out. Does sound like the hull was designed well. That's about the same speed as a 22C with the same power.
If your close enough for PK, you should also consider the Lake Powell meet in June. You'd love running that boat there!

Funny you should say that about the 22. That's exactly what we were talking about on the way back in. The 27 weighs 2k lbs. more but top end w/same power is about the same. Ventilating that hull & packing air under it seems to really work. Very cool how they are evacuating that built up air under the back in that low pressure cavity too. Pretty high tech stuff:cool!:

PS: Forgot the camera today. I'm picking it up Thursday so I'll snap some then & post.

Just got a quote on a new 27ZR with a 525 and switchable exhaust, about $120k. Upgraded tabs with indicators, solid hull color, hour meter but no trailer. Nice boat.

Here are some pics from today. A couple next to a 43ZR. Damn, that thing was big :eek!: I was going to order black hull sides but this red one was coming off the line & optioned about like I wanted. All my others have been red/white. Glad I went this route now. The red sides really give it that classic Donzi look.

I'd say Donzi got that hull right, 72 in a 27 footer, with a 496 is fantastic, especially with no tweaking. Enjoy!

The 525 is a $26k option.

How can they do it so cheap?

Specifically, the quote was $91k with a 496HO and add $26k if you want to upgrade to the 525 with switchable exhaust.

There is a very fine line seperating passion from sickness.
All of us must fall onto the passion side, because the alternative is too depressing to contemplate.

You got that right & after looking at Buizilla's sig line, I would say we are both about as far gone. Mine are just of the 4 wheeled variety:cool!:

PS: If my dad hadn't been transferred to Dallas from Tampa when I was 3, my sickness would probably look more like his:yes:

Royalbcat,

Very sharp looking boat. I like the solid red hull sides too. You are going to be very happy with the new boat (especially when the water starts to get rough). Congratulations, its nice to see another 27zr owner on the board!

PS. wonder why they went and had to ruin a perfectly good 43ZR by installing an interior down below?! Guess I'm still dreaming of a comp. edition stripped-out 35ZR with twin 600's......:bonk:

Beautiful! The red was a good choice. Pismo, I was quoted closer to $100,000 with 525. These boats come with a very impressive list of standard features so I wouldn't run it up with options. I'll also get the 525 if I get one. Nothing against the one pictured here though! I'm drooling. You'll be running close to 75 with a little tweaking and seat time.:)

The options were tab indicators, solid hull color, and $2500+ for the CMI switch exhaust (which I need). The list for that was $136,638 plus their bargain $4,595 for "ship & prep" so $141,233. Then they took it down to $118,722 including prep so -16%. I agree, I think I could do better. This was a one minute quote at the NE boatshow, no negotiating. No trailer either.

Cheaper to get an HO and a Chief 650hp NA 540. Would need an XR tho as well.

I think the 27ZR with an HO at the Miami show was asking about $90k. A 525 upgrade seems to run $20-30k depending on manufacturer so I can see $100-110k ish with some bartering.
