Engine hatch

Does anyone know why some 18 classics have a raised engine hatch and others are flush. Is this because of engine type,year,or manufacture.

In 1994, 95, 96 Donzi did a big hump on the 18 Classic hatches. I think it was because some of the boats came with OMC packages (5.8 liters with GT40 intakes) that needed add'l clearance. I owned a '96 18 with a Merc 350 260hp that had the hump but didn't need it. My 97 MAG350 has a hump, but it is much smaller (hatch looks almost flush).
