Just put a new Holley 750 mech. carb on my new motor. All the other carbs I've used look like they've had an acid bath after a season or two.
Is painting it a good idea?
I have painted many, Mercury did most of them too, back a few years ago, before the EFI's were the norm. http://www.donzi.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=9816&d=1110114322

Thanks, they look fine painted the same as the motor.
Any special primer needed or things to avoid painting?

Because I like the factory look of the carb, I used Satin poly. After a few coats, it didn't look like I did anything.
Time will tell how long it lasts.

Nice job. Thanks for posting the pics. Thinking about painting the Edelbrock red.
I have stripped and primed this carb from an HP 500. I'm waiting to get all the other pieces I want to paint stripped and primed before I mix up some more HP Blue paint, so I can shoot them all at once. That damn paint ain't cheap.

Mine was about half a minute away from being old ford blue to match the rest of the motor. At the last moment, I decided I liked the detailed look of the different parts.
I wonder if I should poly the MSD dist. before it's to late.
