Anyone know where/how I can replace the motor for my outdrive?

I have a 1967 16' Classic. The engine is a 302 ford and the outdrive is a volvo penta. The electrical engine that moves the outdrive up and down has burnt out, and I'd like to get it replaced in the off season.

YellowDonzi:

I also have a '67 Ski Sporter with an original Volvo AQ200. Try Performance Marine in Bolton Landing on Lake George 877 248-0284. Ask for Rick or Jason. What they don't know about old Volvo drives isn't worth knowing. Fortunately many old Volvo parts can still be found. Perhaps they can help you figure out what to order OR get the boat to them now and stay for the Dust-off in June. Last Spring my tilt motor/worm gear etc all needed an overhaul, they fixed it right.

Madpoodle, if you could look it for me that would be great!

Also, how hard of an install is it? Are there any manuals or walkthroughs I should look into or is it a relatively straightforward repair?

Easy to do, tilt motor bolts on top of the assembly with 2 bolts, and whole tilt unit bolts to inside of transom assembly with 2 bolts. A 5-10 minute job if you stop to sip your beer a few times. Pick up a volvo manual off of e-bay and it will cover most of the general repair items on our old drives.

Where were you in '75 when I had all that trouble with my Eaton drive?

I'm still trying to find out what specific part my outdrive uses.
Should I pull it and find out that way? Or is there a place I could look it up?

Thanks again

If The Poodle can't help call all Island Marine on Long Island and ask for Jim in service, they are the largest Volvo dealer on the east coast. If they can't get one new they have one used or will have a idea on what to do.

also, do you have a website or a phone number for long island marine? The google search came up with a bunch of listings.

Thanks!

Hi YD67, the name of that place is All Island Marine.(A.I.M.) They do have a good supply of parts for older Volvo stuff. The motor is made by some non-Volvo outfits as a repair part. A.I.M. carries the trim assembly, motor and all. Make sure you're sitting down when they get to the part about cost.
The motor alone can be had here on L.I. from Freeport Marine and a place called Sea Coast.
Motor only is WAY cheaper.
A.I.M. 516-764-3300
F.P.M. 516-379-2610
S.C. 631-884-1013
Good luck,
Mike

We are also a Volvo Penta dealer.. I know last time we ordered one of those they were kind of pricey.. Also some of the stuff as time goes on is getting harder to get, as you could imagine.. Unless it is something that was also shared on the newer stuff they have been slowly phasing out a lot of the old stuff. If it is not available new from Volvo then you will need to search for new old stock that may be left on another dealers shelf.. If you need us feel free to call me..
