I talked to Barry Brant tech today. I must have sounded pretty stupid because they did not seem too interested in helping me out. Here is my situation: I am doing a buildup of the 4.3 v-6. We wanted to run it a season unblown. I wanted a carb that I could run as is and then re-jet for a blower application. Initially I thought a 650 Marine Demon would be a good option. After more research I felt that it would be better to get something in the 500 cfm range. Problem, Barry Grant does not make one. They did say that a 650 would be too big for a blow through. They told me that a 575 would work in a box but it is not a marine. We went discussed using a hat and they told me that a hat would not work. Hmm. I heared that Geo's hat worked pretty good but that was on a fuel injected system. Not really sure what to do now.

They basically told me that the 650 would work unblown then I would have to use a 575 non-marine. They told me that the non-marine would be ok in a box. So I would need to get another carb. That sounds a bit much.

I think the displacement is to shy for a 650, 500 should be close until you go to the blower then you need the smarter guys! I have a small Holley with little time on it you may want to play with.

That sounds good. What size?

They were correct. But I would not use a 650 regardless. He would not recommend the 575 because it is in a boat. If you said car he would have. The at won't work on a carb ubit because of leaks from thropttle shaft and vent tubes. Plus you need to equalize the pressure inside and out side the carb to work.

I am down in CR until Sunday when I get back I will check the numbers, it came off a 302 with 116 hours on it. Looks small compared to my 750!

That sounds good. The displacement difference b/t a 302 and the 4.3 is not huge. I had a 650 on my 302 and it ran fine. 500 would be perfect. Just drop me a pm when you get back.

I installed edelbrock carb and intake on mine 6 years ago and have had no issues with it at all. part for carb #1409 use calibration kit #1485 this is a 600cfm vacuum secondary. for intake I used edelbrock part # 2111 its for non vortec heads if you have vortec heads you will need part # 2114. it was a simple weekend swap and made a big difference. i gained a couple miles and hour and 400 rpm.

Is that for the blower app?
