2004 22 classic Anniversary Edition. Ok i need some ideas for a ladder or swim platform. I need a way for friends to get back in the boat. I can pull my self up but others have trouble. Actually I have trouble sometimes too. Does anyone have some good solutions. I appreciate everyones feedback. The season is still 4 months away for me but I want to be ready. Thanks..

I have one of these:

You put your right foot in (no need to shake it all about), straighten your leg and swing your left leg over the gunwhale like mounting a horse. It's simple and easy. My wife has it mastered, too. Works pretty slick and if you don't like it, you aren't out a lot of $$$$.

That's kinda cool, thanks for posting it.

I tried a ladder, I now use the drive as a ladder. I tell people they can step on anything black (so no prop, no tabs), which works well. The rear lifting eye is a good handle. The drive is deeper than any ladder will be so it actually works much better. Even the kids have no problem figuring it out. Also one less thing hanging off the boat or to store, and many fewer holes in the transom if a mounted type.

The drive can hurt if your leg slips. ANyone else have other devices or ideas. Thanks

Yes, the Ladders shown here http://www.donzi.net/forums/showthread.php?t=43842&highlight=ladder from us is still available.. It worked well in our classic.. The nice thing was no drilling or having to "hard mount" anything.. :) If it interests you give me a shout.. :) Jamie / Lakeside 570-639-2628

Here's my solution: http://www.donzi.net/forums/showpost.php?p=345686&postcount=16 You can buy these ladders anywhere and with a few mods they work fairly well. Mine clears the aluminum fairing, can't say for sure if it will clear a windshield. It fits better then the pics show and since then I heated and bent the plastic rods so that the rubber "snubbers" now contact the hull squarely.

Carl, what stops that ladder from sliding down and putting all the weight on top of the fairing?

Carl, what stops that ladder from sliding down and putting all the weight on top of the fairing? The ladder can only go down so far because of the wide gunwale, then the weight falls on the end of the loops so I glued rubber hose on them. It stays a good inch above the windscreen. I usually throw a towel under it anyway. It's not perfect but it works. Also it does not contact the rubrail like it appears to in the pic links.

I like it. I've never been confident in the type that hang from the cleats. Just seems like to much weight to me.

Do you mean to much weight on the cleat? Also does the ladder that hangs on the cleat store easiely.

I've yet to see a perfect solution to this problem. Randy's rope stirrup may work just as good as mine. I do not feel good about heavy people using my ladder; it's plastic! Us boaters can climb the outdrive but guests may get careless and slip into the prop or scratch the rear deck crawling on it. I do not let anyone enter the boat that way.

Do you mean to much weight on the cleat?Exactly...but that's just my own personal view. Can't answer your storage question.

There is no perfect solution, these ladders are unwieldy, a pain to store, work poorly, they barely reach into the water. I tell you, as imperfect as it is and I agree it is imperfect, climbing the drive is the way to go, deep, no equipment to deploy or store, always in place, very strong, solid, stable. Traits which these ladders lack. Haven't slipped of yet, not even the kids.

This looked like a pretty good solution.

I know it's heresy to think about, but I still think this would be awful convenient.

Tony...those are pretty much taboo on this site....but I have to admit, I've thought about it....a lot. :boggled:

I guess a platform would be OK for some people but the grab handles behind the engine hatch are tacky and you still have to climb over the back of the boat and mine is waxed and slippery. Every method posted here will work but all have drawbacks. It would be nice if the factory would engineer a solution. Who doesn't swim off their boat?

Handles are tacky, I think the ski ring works fine. If I'm swimming I always use the outdrive and sit on the hatch to "drip dry" for a bit. Throw a towel down and slippery is not a problem. When my wife or passengers swim I have a ladder like Carls. It's ss and collapsable, not too bad a deal...but the double platform in either teak or powdercoat sure is food for thought!

Could somebody Photoshop a double platform setup, in red, onto the stern of my boat so I could see what it would look like?

I love the ladder that is shown on Rich Rees's yellow 22. The location is great. Once up the ladder you can step right into the back bench seat. My question is: Can you get to the under side of the two mounting brackets? I would want to add support to the mounts (backing Plates).
