not to walk through a certain storage yard, and unbelievably stumble into something you have secretly wanted for 35+ years, stashed in a corner, :eek!: even has original SW gauges, side console, seats, controls, canvas, cushions, steering, FW cooled big blocks, and perfect original TEAK, perfect original gel and stripes, perfect bottom and NO bottom paint, and then finding out it's possibly available  .... yes, it's stupidly impractical, isn't fond of shallow water....

and then ask a certain accompanying MadDog his opinion...

bad move ever asking him...

-----I have to say I dont recognize the hull. Its not a Cary. At least I dont think it is!!! The upper trim line makes the boat look like a great big St.Tropez. Its not any of the DONZI 24 line, thats for sure.
-----What boat would Jim lust after??? What boat would he make a sacrifice for??? Guess I dont know you well enough yet, Jim. And,,,, although I know of Kimberly, I dont know his boating history.
-----Handsome hull, none-the-less. Looking forward to the skinny!!! Congratulations, Jim. I know you must have wanted one for a long time, whatever it is........Bill S

Can't wait to see it uncovered ! !
I'm thinking along the lines of a Cary also ... they did do a lot of inboard stuff back then ... but there are hints of Walters/Wynne trademarks in the hull too .
Patiently waiting on more pics....

I know very little about these old boats (and it is showing). But after wearing out Google (everything from Kleenex to Bacardi) and then going to HORBA here is another nominee:

hint > the rearmost hump in the cover is the captain's chair.... the one just forward of that is the compass (which is the original compass on it's original teak base)...

I feel dumb, I should know this boat. 24 feet isn't close-32 or 35 would be a better guess. I did notice the left to right step in the stern. The teak has got me wondering, Maltese Magnum maybe?

it's a 28 Cary Sportsman.... I think OlRed guessed it first.. mine does NOT have the raised coaming deck in some of the drawings... my bow light is all the way forward in the center, not sure when they changed that deck layout, but mine is pretty flat.... this week starts the saga of, as my wife call's it, *Jimming it*.... oh boy, is the family REALLY pissed off I sold the Scarab, emphasis on really pissed off.... they just don't understand what this Cary means to me...besides the bimini is almost 90 sq ft (incoming from Cuda, everybody duck) there is a plug from when they installed a thru hull depth finder recently, and it's about 1 1/4" thick, maybe more, more pic's to follow soon...

Sorry about the family, but the ride on a bad day will fix that problem. As for which do I think is the better built boat, the Cary. Congratulations.

So is that the same hull as the original Donzi 28 ?

Definitely is a beaut ! Still waiting for more photos

What you need now , is to find one of the 28's with the 2 V8's in tandem and start your own fleet.

couple more pic's....... I have a detail guy that just LOVES to wet sand and buff.... he spent 9 hours yesterday, and 7 today, and never even stopped one time.... getting there slowly but surely... I removed the transom scuppers and deck hawse holes to clean them seperately.............. you can see it doesn't have a transom drain hole.... Cary's were way ahead of their time in certain aspects, the drain is in the bottom of the hull, dead center in the fore/aft middle of the hull, in the keel, pretty ingeneous, lowest part of the bilge assures a spotless and dry bilge all the time... the engine flush fittings are located in the strainers, another cool feature that way since everything gets fresh water cleaned. I discovered a couple little leaks today since everything is sooooo damm original, the strainers cork gaskets must be close to original because the distinctive original material hasn't been used since the mid-70's and I changed the gaskets in one of them today because it seeped with the hose. Gotta fix a minor petcock leak tomorrow before first seat-trial......
more pic's tomorrow...

Jim, please edit your signature... :)

...and please tell us "what" is going to power this boat?

I got a feeling it is a pair of Diesels to augment your Business,... but that is just a hunch :)

Beautiful boat.

It looks similar, in deck layout and machinery, to the 33 Carey that sold in MS recently.
Oh, and by the way, the lakes here are WAY down here.....pray for a lot more rain.

LenMan, power is a pair of 454/320(?) FWC Crusaders w/BW boxes. We *think* they only have between 80-90 hours since repower in late '92 time frame, and that is prolly on the high side for hours.... I think it needs a carb and timing tweak... I am going to find out Monday where the new engines were bought and installed... engines are VERY clean. I added 4" exhaust flappers today and started them up on the hose, I was pleasantly surprised how quiet and smooth this thing is, REAL quiet, it must have humongous mufflers under the rear floor that I haven't found yet.

It has the original Covico rubber rim wheel, great shape with stainless spokes, but I really want to replace just the chrome center cap, any idea's where to go??

As perfect as the original rubrail is, I am going to replace it with a white/stainless insert setup, just to update the appearance, read > $$$$$

Jim,

------I am extremely envious. That boat is set up so nicely. They could sell the hell out of those today up around Cape Cod. They love that kind of set-up for island hopping and have the money to pay for it. Small enough to trailer on occasion and get in and out of tight places and yet big and heavy enough to get across Nantucket sound on a rough day. I can see that tied up at "Baxters" in Hyannis harbor on a Saturday afternoon for fish and chips and a cold one.....or two. The El Pescador just took a step backward for me................Bill S
