I'm looking at buying a '99 28ZX with twin 350 scorpions (I assume these are the motors cause the guy said they were 350hp each) with 178hrs. Two questions:
1) The guy is going to ask $50-60k for the boat and this seems a bit high from my research; thoughts?

2) If I hang on to this boat for 3-5 years and then decide to get something else, will I be able to sell it for much?

Bonus: I think i might be able to get it for $35k if I work the deal right; would I be a moron to pass on that deal if I can get it?

The other thing I have to consider is that I will probable have to replace my truck as this is too much boat to tow for it (see my other thread abotu that:
http://www.donzi.net/forums/showthread.php?t=47484 )

What would you do it you were me?

(ok, that was actually 4 questions, sorry)

Haven't seen it yet; just been described to me over the phone. What is the difference?

Scorpions are blue and are built by Mercury Racing

The black are built by Mercruiser

Aren't Scorpions 377c.i. strokers?:lobster: :lobster: :lobster: (I know it's a lobster and not a scorpion, but it's the closest on our emoticon pallette :) ) :lobster:

Since the Scorps (blue) were tens of thousands of dollars more, I'd say it's the most important fact to check before determining value!! As my Driver's Training instructor said almost 40 years ago, when you ASSUME, you make an "ASS" out of "U" amd "ME."

To the best of my knowledge, the motors are stock and 350hp apiece; wouldn't that mean they'd HAVE to be scorpions? Did the other engine option (the black ones) have that much hp?

oh and RedDog- that kind of thinkning with the fiance is sure to send me back to singlehood.....wait a minute, maybe you're on to something

Scorp's seemed to vary in HP and I believe all were crankshaft ponies, 350 yes, (maybe) but not after drive. 320 at prop comes to mind. Yes they are blue, and they are hand built. Sometimes not with the best of results mind you... ol'Red out there :)

I believe there were three versions of the Scorps over the same number of years and all differed EVER so slightly. I think Ted has some good poop on this subject.

Bottom line, low hours, sound hull, real blue motors, and for 35K, sounds like a deal.

I'll bet it's the blue Scorps. Mr X on here, has, or had a beautiful 28 with Scorps. He was very pleased with it. They were blue motors.

I can tell you back in 2003, the upgrade to blue Scorps on a 292 Formula was $32,000!:eek!: It's almost like you didn't get credit for the two 350 mags that you didn't get.:(
