Going to have to organize the garage this winter. Sure wish I had room for the boat, cars and a shop, but unfortunately it's only 19x20 and only a 7 1/2' ceiling so space is limited.

What I need to fit in there is:
2 workbench's (at least 8' long), drill press, arc welder, gas welder, table saw, radial arm saw, industrial sewing machine w/table, grinder, tubing bender, compressor, couple of engines (of course), plus shelving/storage.

Everything will be put on wheels so I can move it around to get a car in if necessary.
I need the 2 bench's so I can put them together to make 1 large one for a cutting table if I'm doing upholstery work.
I have already seperated the compressor from it's tank and mounted both near the ceiling on the wall to save space.

Any space saving tricks to share?
What have you done to set up your shop/garage?

I built my dream garage a few years ago but the new 22 still wouldn't fit. Here's what I did: http://www.donzi.net/forums/showthread.php?t=42232 This garage is as big as code would allow and it has a rental efficiency apartment above. I used to wrench out of home and it's as well equipped as most shops but no lift. I also have a detached 2 car garage!:)

Nice Carl. I missed that thread. I don't have that option. I have a rental suite on the other side of the wall.

The boat doesn't fit in my garage either so I got this make-shift boat house. Keeps it dry.

I built a 30x30 shop with 9ft ceiling, 2x6 walls with truss roof, set on a slab. It's about 85 yards away from the main house, Kathy won't walk that far just to ask me a dumb question. Still need some insulation and more lighting. Sure beats working on the ground.

realbold, that's pretty much what I have use for the boat.

Foster, 30x30, that's nice. Wish I had that kind of room. :( I like all the shelving you've added between the studs.

How the heck did you get 3 phase in a residential building?? Are you zoned commercial?
We have clients with big $$$ that can't get 3 phase. The solution was to install speed drives to convert the single to 3ph.
BTW: I hate you for this-------2-40' x 50' shops.... :biggrin.:

A friend has a machine shop in his attached garage. Got hooked up with 3 phase by an electrician he knows and the city hasn't known about it for 10 years now, converter's in the basement.

Here are more pics of my beloved garages! I am maxed out due to building codes. The attached garage is the max allowed and the small garage barely met the max allowed size for a "shed". I wanted to build a giant pole barn. Does that "coffin" under the stairs look familiar??? lol. Looks like one of those things you'd put a Jesus statue in!

30 x 40 pole barn, on a slab, 10 ft ceiling... insulated, 140,000 BTU wood burner and also a propane furnace in the ceiling i have never used.... need to redo the lighting and what not so things are a bit brighter... would like to finish the ceiling, epoxy the floor and add 2 x 4 inner walls to what is already there (4 x 4 pole walls) and more insulation as well as insulate the ceiling.... pretty well equipped for tools...

btw, the dairy farmer across the road (who owns EVERYTHING AROUND ME) has 3 phase running right down the edge of my property back to the river to run his irrigation pumps.... if i need it i can have it dropped at the shop without much issue....

Here's mine: It's 30'x50' with 15' sheds on each side (50'x60' total footprint). Can fit the Stryker, but it usually stays under the south shed. Holds three cars and my center console boat, my reloading shop, indoor shooting range, fridge, microwave and Janet's washer/dryer. Donzi lives under the north shed, along with my dually.

I'm waiting for the "Big" barn next to the shop to finally "fall" over so i can ummm really get serious ;) only problem is... the "small" shop is gonna get damaged when this happens as the "Big" barn is leaning that way... :eek!:

Dang - some of these shops are bigger than my house.

I can't even put a car in my garage - it is a little bit bigger than my former house's garage

My former house I tried to get my truck into the garage once to do some maintenance in the dry. Once I spun the rear wheels I realized my front tires were wider that the door frame....

Some of these remind me of some of the fly in comunities in the area.....many of the hangers are larger than the houses. One of my customers has a hanger that a C-47 will fit into!!!!!!:eek!: :eek!:
But normally there's only a Beech 18, a Baron, a T-6, and a Stearman w/a 450 Pratt!! All at the same time.

I am seriously envious of some of these "pole barn" things.. Somehow I dont think they meet Dade County buiilding codes though... Something about 130 MPH rated structures

M/P check out the arch buildings. Some will handle up to 200 mph wind.

For anyone wondering how to fit a 22' in a 24x24 garage,i ordered my trailer with the folding tounge. It takes 2' off the total length, and i can still close the door, with the outdrive down. Unfortunately...it takes up too much room to store all winter,so my 22 ZX is in storage elsewhere!
