 I have LBJ's 1965 Glastron with factory 409 Mercruiser (I posted previously with question if anyone has seen Mercruiser 409 in Donzi or elsewhere) and thought I'd share some of the pictures and video I've acquired showing LBJ with famous guests leaving some Donzi 16s & 18s? behind (sorry fellows). Just look for the link from my main page. Please, if you have any information please let me know. I can share more pictures in exchange ;>))

Here is the video. Not an apples to apples comparison 20' Glastron faster than a 16 and 18 foot Donzi. I would imagine that 409 was not exactly stock setup either. Racing, it's all about money. Wonder who had a bigger boating budget. LBJ or SS. Cool look at the past however!

The block is the lowered compression model (truck/marine) with the cutout at the top of the cylinder. The heads are the 3852583 that are supposed to be the best? The video is the one I put up on my web site. It is just a short compressed little clip I threw together. Here is a quote from the book "Blue Thunder": "Lyndon Johnson's Secret Service guards at the LBJ ranch owned a boat that Aronow built for them so they could guard Johnson when he was whipping around in his own Glastron. Johnson quickly noticed that they had a faster boat and appropriated it. The agents then had to buy another Cigarette so they could keep up with LBJ" It seems there is an attempt to make it sound like LBJ wanted and got a Donzi when he actually had his '64 Glastron with 225 hp and the faster boat he noticed was the new 310 hp Glastron with the 409. It is fascinating indeed!

I wonder where the SS Donzis are today.

This looks to be an 18 with a V-drive, eh?
