Hey Dauley;
Jason and I have spent plently of time on Cumberland and some on D.Hollow.
It is fairly clean..Visibility approx 6-9 feet.
It's certainly deep.. 60-90 Ft. Depths common, and a couple holes to 150 or so near the dam.
Plenty of coves to duck off the main body into..
Lots of good marinas and in a couple cases, accompanying lodges to stay in.
Launch ramps are fine also..
The level fluctuates in Spring and Fall as does Cumberland, although not as much.
There is less debris&logs on Dale Hollow, which REALLY matters to me.(I said LESS; it is not log-free.)
The shoreline slopes more gradually into the water at D. Hollow than at Cumberland. Cumberland has more sheer cliffs and waterfalls, but D.Hollow affords more opportunity for shore-camping, if your into that sort of thing.
For the most part the lake is deep, as I said, and you can run worry-free. There are a couple spots that become shallow&dangerous, especially as the level drops as the season progresses. The locations are hard to describe to you here..Check with knowledgeable locals..I was goin' along in my Grady-White years ago, sounder was readin' 80Ft. or so, and it shoaled to 8 within seconds..Wyatt Earp never got to his six-shooter as fast as I got to my trim button...
It's a neat lake..Go for it..
