tiger,

Been a long time. In fact, I can't remember the year anymore, but I got to see that boat the last year the Offshore Worlds were held where it included the European racers in a true World Championship. Races were held in Atlantic City, NJ that year and the waters tore up a lot of equipment.

John Crouse had just introduced his book Searace and was in attendance signing autographs.

Don Johnson raced a cat that year and the TransAtlantic record holder boat was there also. The teams brought all the hardware in cars, buses and haulers. Really a fantastic site in the then new Trump Plaza Hotel & Casino.

Later saw a Super Hawaii boat down at the worlds when they were held at Key West. This one had 4 big outboards on it and appeared to be a patrol boat for the marine patrol.

Fabio Buzzi is an Italian genious. He's been even more prolific a designer as his mentor Renato "Sonny" Levi. Of these winged boats, people who saw them would never forget them. Once he was asked what the wing was for since the boats chine walked so badly? He replied that without the wing instead of walking chine to chine, it would roll deck to deck!!!!!
Buzi was also instramental in the design and production of his own surface drives and "Seatek" racing diesels.
Stefano Casiraghi was (if I remember correctly) the husband of one of the princess daughters of Prince Ranier and Grace Kelly. He was killed in an accident in one of Buzzi's boats.

I caught it on TV a couple of times, to see it run that well with the Seatek's was a real treat. What has become of the Seatrk's as of late, I have not seen any in the races.

Phil, they're definately still around. Their peak engine is about 1000 HP. That's an inline six that's about 60" long and weighs about 1200#.
I think they are selling more to the military and law enforcement. They make some very dependable, long lived versions in the 600-800 HP range.

I was on their site awhile back and saw the patroll boats etc but wondered if they would do anymore racing, it is pretty obvious they make one heck of an engine line.

yeah, ive seen a winged boat running around before, like i stated in my first post but its only around 35 foot , but no one knows what type of hull it is, the owner is a young kid somewhere around my age if i rember correctly, but was super hawaii a model of boats that buzzi built?? ive searched google a few times and cant come up with anything on that name, that quote you said about the wings i have read in magazines before, in my mind these are beautifuly built boats, but just not alot heard about them, didnt he also design the trimax surface drive? ive tried to research this alot but havent come up with alot, now alot on OSO either when i try and search there either, either way they are way cool!!!!

Take a look at this;

particularly some of the hull details like anti stuffing fins on the bow.

I don't think so. I think Buzzi lives in his own world.

Matt, I'm sorry, I gave you the wrong boat company. It wasn't Superboats, but Super Hawaii. Haven't done a search on them, but you may find more about what your looking for if I had given you the correct boat name. :) Sorry.
