Is it ok to use a volvo drive coupler from a 4 cyl on a 500hp motor?
If not, what couplers are recommended?

Do high poerformance couplers exist?
If so, what are the benefits?

There is a High performance coupeler. Osco Or Keith Eikert or CP performance should. Howerer Volvo may have one that is for a V8 which will work.

Mercruisers use different ones for 4s & 8s, also from Alpha to Bravo. I hear couplers go from mis-alignment. HP tears up the Drive.

Volvo does make a few different couplers for their AQ models (ie: AQ 250-290, DP, DPX) depending on HP, flywheel size, and spline count. If you plan on using your existing coupler, I would recommend that you take it to your local clutch rebuilder and have them beef it up with new and heavier springs. It usually costs about $60 for the job.

Volve SX couplers use a rubber bushing type coupler like many Mercrusier models and cannot be modified. Also, I'm sure that Volvo SX couplers are all the same except for the mounting-bolt pattern. Like the Mercruiser, the Volvo SX drive must be properly aligned in order for the coupler to survive.
