I have a 1/8 inch concave curve in the transom from the top of the cutout to the bottom. Measured by placing a straight edge next to both sides of the cutout.

The old outdrive did not leak, but had been caulked prior to installation.

The new Volvo DP (used 50hrs) outdrive has an embedded seal which is in good condition.

I am somewhat tentative about caulking for a propper seal.

Does anybody think this 1/8" curve will straighten out when torquing down the transom?

What is recommended to "condition" the existing seal w/out destroying it on a future removal?

Any ideas or advice is appreciated.

I have seen several bowed transoms, check it carefully to make sure tthe wood is good and dry!!! Yes when you torque it down it will straighten, I put a thin coating of regular Silicone on the rubber. It is a pressure seal so little to almost no sealant is needed.

thank you MOP...

The transom wood was only slightly starting to separate
in one section, everything else looked fine and dry
I sealed the seprated section with fiberglass resin and clamped it.

The transom did in fact straighten right out.
Thank you for the reply.
Every little bit helps when you winging it.

Drilling two new holes at the top of the cutout was mentally dificult.
Hopefully it was the correct thing to do.

Any way, its all bolted up and apperently rock solid.
Now, I'm on to the engine coupler...
