Anything I should know? I figure just put a hose in the water intake, a hose in a gas can, wire it up, then use a remote stater switch and let 'er eat.

I don't see any problems. Make sure the engine stand is tight so it doesn't torque and flip or tip over when you rev it. Keep a fire extinguisher handy.

I don't plan on revving it much over 2 grand. I just want to hear the valve train. I know it's on that pallet pretty well. I didn't worry about pulling it over on me when I was torqueing down the head bolts. It also stay right in place on that pallet, when I drug it off the trailer I brought it home on, to another pallet that I had put casters on so I could move it around the garage.

Man, that engine runs like a sewing machine. What is it?

Joe I have run many on 2 cinder blocks and a hunk of 2X6 under the bell housing, the stand we had had a leg in the way of the starter hole. As long as you throttle up & down slow there should never be an issue. Some saturday mornings would draw a little crowd of customers with un believing eyes!

I watched a mechanic do this one time and he ran the water suction in a #3 tub. Then ran the water hose into the same tub. The engine got all the water it needed and the supply hose kept the tub topped up. i.e., the tub acted as a ballast.

Good idea George.

I ran a SBC on the floor years ago and there was no problem. We didn't hook up any water; just didn't run it very long.

Exactly what Zimm17 said!

I used an old military trunk and engine hoist. Man, that was fun!

Ditto on the no water feed but "fill the block" and remove all belts, this holds the temp for longer then you think and more important keeps the circ pump seal from burning.
