I'm about to drop $1100 on a 6" x 27" heat X for the 502 unless anyone has any bright ideas. It's a new unit from a respectable supplier mentioned many times here on the Registry...

I'm kicking myself for not buying a "new/open box" one on Ebay a month ago....it went for $200.00 :( (tank only, but it would have been easily rigged)

Anyhow, if anyone has a line on something more economical, please speak up, otherwise, I'll be pulling the trigger Wednesday.

I've done this already. Works great. Follow my previous thread:

I went with the 5" heat exhanger, and it just barely fits on the stringer under the engine. I don't know if a 6" would work under there. Mine holds temps right at 180 deg and I'm even fresh water cooling the exhaust manifolds!

I got mine from oceaneastmarine- it'll be a couple of hundred bucks for rubber hoses too.

SK 4008F Big Block Full System $681.00

I went with the full system since my dana marine exhaust has separate upper and lowers. The stock merc manifolds need block off spacers- and if they are old, good luck getting the allen head plugs out. I gave up and bought new exhaust!

I know what you mean. It took me all day to get one plug out, and they were practically brand new manifolds. After I rounded out the square plug, tried banginng it around to unscrew with a cold chisel and hammer, finally cut the damn thing almost all the way out with a dremel to where I coud get ahold of what was left and jerk it out, I went on Boat Fix and asked if there was a better way. George on there said to heat the boss around the plug, then put an ice cube on the plug. The second one took me about ten minutes to get out.:bonk:
