I wanted to ask the same question.
What happened?
He posted the "The post that killed powerboating as we know it",
and all hell broke loose.
He took all his posts and left.
Anyone know more of this story?

Carl C

Matty requested that his user name and all of his threads be deleted. He was upset with the ethnic jokes, some of the recent posts here and the fact that this is now a pay site. That's all I know and I wish him well.

No matter who's team wins,if he's taken all his posts and left, it's safe to say he's upset about something..
That is, if an over-the-hill-drummer may express an opinion better suited to a physcologist.
Matty gave me good advice and answered all my questions about my restored 16.
I wish him well.

I never met the guy but he was very helpful to me in regards to technical advice and when I posted that my daughter was moving to his part of the country for grad school and would miss boating he was gracious in extending not only lots of helpful information but also a invitation to local events.

Matty had well over 4200 posts I believe, at least 20 of them we're directed at me busting my gonads :smash: about his dislike of metalflake Glastrons and Carlson boats. :rlol:

Anyway how in hell do you delete that many posts and keep your sanity? :bonk: Unless he had a direct link to the "easy button" via help from master control??
This sure isn't like him, he always enjoyed a good ball bustin debate! :splat:

So with that said i'm sure hopeing he's just regrouping and will resurface with a "Grand Irish Enterance", cause he's not one to cut & run!. :jestera: :checkered

Is it possible he was kidnaped by a group of outlaw lesbians driving a
BayLiner north on GreenWood Lake? Nahh!!!
He's too cute for them... :cool!:

Been on vacation the past two weeks. I missed the Mattyboy situation. I like Mattyboy. If you can believe it, I spent a summer on Greenwood Lake in 1958. Had a Sid Craft "B" utility with a Merc 20H on the back. I've corrosponded with him by PM and by Email. I just looked at my PM record: NO MATTYBOY. It looks like a clean sweep. John

I have got no beef with the guy (Matty).. He seemed to be an asset to the site.. Sometimes comments get people upset or uneasy, eventhough the intentions may not be bad.. I have been on the site quite a while & know a lot of people here too.. I know that some people take things to heart too much & some get tooo opinionated at times.. I agree with you that's just the psychoanalyst in me, And I also agree we are all thinking this out waaaaay tooo much.. ;) :) J

Walt, that's a great clip. Thanks for posting it.
As you watch it, look closely at the pics, look at how many of the people who used to post here are gone. You'll still find them at events, but they sure aren't around here anymore.

Every board has it's own life cycle, people leave, people arrive, and I don't plan on leaving anytime soon, but things sure have changed.

I really hope some of the new members make a concentrated effort to attend an event, that is where true friendships are formed, not between miles of fibre optic cable, and a couple of flat screens.

Boy Oh Boy thats for sure!

I have distance myself from here also as of earlier this year for the same reason {"members come members go"}, with many of Matty's negative attitude posts trying to make me or others feel that they're unwelcomed when he didn't like the topic, but obviously I still drop by here because thats just the way he is with his written word and I chose not to post as often to avoid getting into a debate with every post knowing he's going to drop some sarcasm.
Except in person I know he's a ok fun guy, and not a fungi... :bonk:

New members bring new healthy ideas and keep things from getting stale, and so is the cycle of life web-sites included! :wavey:

All the best to everyone, and Matty too!

MBAmen MB!!! I also work week-ends and have Monday through Thursday off. The lakes are so much calmer and saner during the week too. But the events are always on week-ends when things are crazy and sometimes the smaller boats can't even run.:( Maybe we can get a mid week gig going next summer.:crossfing

I usually take an unpaid weekday or 2 off when attending an event (I'm an hourly guy).

I guess you will have to take a weekend off and call it "vacation days"

I guess you will have to take a weekend off and call it "vacation days" I'm self employed and it's expensive for me to lose a week-end but I did it once last summer for White Lake and Lake Michigan. Had a great time but Lk. Michigan was too rough even for most of the poker run boats; it figures. I think it's time for y'all to take a week-day off for Lake St. Clair (or whereever) next summer! It's so nice during the week.

I've been on the board quite a while now, and many times when I first meet someone at a gathering, I feel like it's like running into an old friend. I rarely get too involved in any debate. It's just not worth the energy. Like I read in the book "How to win friends and influence people", one quote I'll never forget. "No matter how much you prove your point, it makes the other guy that much sure he's right". I usually give my opinion, and it can be taken or forgotten, matters not to me.

Right here's a good example of a bad time turned into something great. Last year at the Hometown Rally, I damn near sunk the Minx, and Catch 22 had a fuel problem. The lunch was at Gator's in Treasure Island. Since I had lived there for 32 years, I offered for them to ride over to Gators with us in my truck. Turns out they are just the greatest people to hang out with. We always have a good time together. I didn't know Jim or Gina from Adam and Eve when we got to the Rally, now we talk almost daily. It sounds crazy, but Deb and I both agreed that breaking down that day, turned out the best thing for us.:)

Great people.

I agree..

*most* people who dont always get along online usually get along just fine offline..the typed word is a funny thing..

I've met a few from the board (Cliff, Donzi Di, Doug L, Mattyboy) and they've stayed at our home..wonderful people..

I look forward to seeing them again..and meeting new friends :)

 You guys sound like a bunch of brow beaters...........it seems like its mostly the new guys who have it out for Matty. Most of which don't know of the "donzi" knowledge he has obtained thru the yrs and was always glad to share to whoever. He recently took a trip out to Michigan to help a fellow Donzi owner on his boat; he's also gone to other members and helped out. It may be mental help or a pat on the back for encouragment; in my case, I wouldn't have made it thru my restoration without him. We spent many w/e's in that garage from start to finish. :boat: He helped me become a member of this site when I restored my 20 Cig. I have gotten alot of help from members of this site that absolutely made my restoration go pretty smooth. I've also met some great people at the Lake George Fall Picnic.

Matty is a great guy with a big heart...................so let this be the post killer and stop with the "brow beating" and get on with it.

Wow......I don't even know what to add to this. Sometimes I guess a little space is what is required in our lives. I know there have been a few occassions where I thought Matty worded things in a way that made a new person to the site feel unwanted. It was just his style I guess, but I would never turn around and offend someone because I didn't like what they posted on a website.

Yes, things change over the years. I've been here a bit over 6 years. I'm a baby compared to some of the members here. I don't even own a Donzi anymore, but you know why I visit this site each and every day of the week usually? Not because I started a club and have to represent it here, but because I enjoy reading about the people I've met over the years and learning from them. Let's take Sofa King for example......There is a new person that seems to be out to do nothing but cut everyone down. This person in my opinion is so disrespectful to the members here that most of the time, I don't even read what he says anymore. However, if this person were to show up at an AOTH gathering......they would be treated with the sme respect I treat everyone else with. At least until they hurt someone at the gathering or caused harm to a boat in attendance. The people who attend gatherings are family. We learn what makes the others tick and are there for them should they encounter difficult times in their lives. Matty too was a part of this family. The man would do whatever he could to help another member here.

He was maybe a little ruff around the edges for some. Maybe rubbed a few the wrong way......, but has a member here who enjoyed the out of the ordinary side of a subject that he could bring out.....will miss his presence here.
