Im looking to purchase a Donzi classic 16-18. Is there a particular outdrive I should be looking for? What is the difference between a bravo and an alpha? Series 1 or 2? Which is better in peformance, durability, etc....? Could someone please school me.

:)

Thanks

If you think you might ever do some engine upgrades or run the total dog crap out of it, get a bravo.

The alpha boats will last just fine though. I just hate the out of the way placement of the alpha impellor.

16 - Alpha Gen I or II
18 - Bravo I or Alpha if you don't plan on big hp, lots or air time, etc.
22 - Bravo I

The Bravo probably wasn't available for the 16's. 18's suffer an MPH loss with a Bravo due to their mass. Alpha's are fine on these size boats as long as they aren't abused.

I'll second that. Smoothest handling 22 out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Volvo - expensive, expensive, harder to replace. Mercs are everywhere, cheaper, easier to find. An Alpha under 350hp or a Bravo under 500hp will last 30 years on these small boats. Volvos are clearly superior in dual prop setups which is the last thing you need on a small boat.
