Are there any factory 16's or 18's with 377 Scorpian engines in them? Has anyone done a conversion to a Scorpian. Looks like it would be a nice setup.

Just curious.

There would be no factory-equipped 16s with the Scorp. The 260 mpi 305 is the largest motor that's been factory installed since the mid-1990's when the 350 was installed. That was a 210 hp version AFAIK.

I searched for Scorpians and didn't see much. Are there some posts on the conversions?

One of the 18's is mine..
The other belongs to Kraven,he's on this board also from time-to-time.
I have described my Scorpion 18 in detail before,so this'll be kinda brief.
They are discontinued...I am not familiar with the used engine market,or if there are any new ones still around. That would have to be researched, I guess.
There are no Scorpion paks in a 16 that were production-made,although with some cash/imagination,I have learned from the members here that anything is possible, and sometimes the impossible is attempted.

I love my boat. The engine and all accompanying components are 1st-rate.Why they discontinued them I'll never know. It's as smooth and as powerful as you could hope for thru the power band..NO Trouble after 5 years(it's an 02). I have had drive problems, although none with my current one.More on that if you want to hear about it.
Performance is great, although it's stern-heavy with the Bravo/dual Batts, big engine, etc. Runs 72-75 (On the Gaffrig, not GPS.) depending on load, fuel level,my guts at any given moment, sea conditions, etc...
Since they are discontinued,it puts mine, Kraven's and the other two out there in an interesting place.I checked with Josh(VP of something-or-other)at Donzi,he did some checkin',and there were only 4 made..They were expensive as heck,50-grand plus retail,I would speculate that not many were as nuts as myself, and steered away from them.
Anyway, put whatever value you want on the rarity of them, I don't know wheter that matters in the big picture or not.
One more thing, it's pretty unstable in the high speed register;if you've had little or no experience, take it easy at first, get used to what the boat does, and ask some of the expert drivers on here how they do it.
Overall, I love it..It really rocks...

Wow, sounds cool. I see I was spelling Scorpion wrong. Wow, I need to get my 8 yo to help me with my spelling. Thanks for the info. I have a 345 hp ZZ4 GM Crate Engine in my 16, so i know all about big hp in a small package. I was just looking at ideasfor upgrading some day. The pisser about my boat is nothing is wrong with it. I don't need a Scorpion or a new drive, so I just try to come up with a future project for when I blow something to smithereens.

The Scorpian was an option when I ordered my 2006 18 in 2005. If I recall the difference in bhp at the shaft over the 6.2 MPI was about 30.

Ted, aren't you concerned about the screws along the gunwhales holding the white diamond plate in scraping the dock or putting holes in your bumpers ???

I assume, you painted them blue, for the amount that hangs out on the ouside of the hull, and it matches the predominant colour ???

:D :D :D

Kidding Ted... ;)

Gees Lenny, don't you know anything about boat building?
I thru-bolted them........then ground the bolts down flush with the nylock nuts on the outside.
I then used a little paint brush and painted the nuts blue.
They don't show that much on the outside, unless you get 20' or closer.:bonk:

The Standard 6.2 was,and is,320HP,I think.
The 377Scorpion was 377HP;350Prop HP.
There was a lot bigger difference in the purchase price than the HP Ratings.

Phil

If the Minx is the same hull as my 18 with the same Scorpion Engine, how do you get into the 80's when mine will only go low-to-mid-70's?
Is it the aerodynamics of the Blackhawk drive?
I don't doubt your word..You all know your boats..That's a big speed increase, and I'm curious as to where it comes from with identical power&hulls.

Hydrodynamics of the Blackhawk drive combined with the propshaft being 8 inches higher, and a few tricks done on the bottom

Incredible!
You certainly have a great engine; Hope it goes well.
I'd be interested to hear about the high-speed handling adventures of an 18 in that speed-register.
