Valve seals?

In a marine application, if the guides are tight, are valve seals necessary?
Without seals the valves get a little oil, right?

I think the seals are definately needed or you would burn oil big time. Enough oil still gets in there and BTW roller rockers help reduce wear by reducing sideways force on the valve.:alligator edit: I was referring to intake valve seals. I quess maybe you could skip the exhaust seals, but I wouldn't.
