Just checking in with my fellow floridians. My homeowners was just cancelled
and it looks like citizens ins. is the only game in the state writing.
looks like ours is going from $ 3000.00 a year to about $ 6800.00 OOWWCH.

Anyone else get this wakeup call yet?:

My insurance company keeps calling me and trying to get me to
reanswer questions about my home.

I fully anticipate being cancelled or doubled.
I figure I should not give them the satifaction of ansering there questions.
Since there probably digging for a reason to violate me.

I went to my agent and asked what options I have available to proactively fight what is soon to happen.

They could not comprehend why I would ask such a thing. and Only repeated that my insurance is not up until February and I dont have to worry until then. (whos side are they on?)

My next tact is to see if my mortgage will accept no insurance since the land is worth 3 times my mortgage amount and the house itself is just a matchbox.

What are your thoughts for getting around this insurance scam.
The irony is that even after being hit by three hurricanes I still payed more in premiums than they payed out in damages.

Ours went from 3300.00 to 7146.00 with a 2000.00 non hurricane to 5000.00 during hurricane. Our agent suggested we get a wind inspection done for 150.00 and it saved us almost 2000.00. Now it's 5400.00/yr

Do you guys think the state will keep letting them bend us over like this if hurricane losses come back in line with historical data?

If I remember correctly, they went up after Andrew and then began to drop over time.
It seems once they get their money back (through higher rates) and become profitable again, they regain their competitive spirit.

I think they will come back down also. Once their reserves are back up someone will drop their price to increase their market share. :crossfing Until then I'll have to suck it up and also shop some other providers.

Sounds like the only thing that they can get is Citizens insurance. My Uncle Ken Sorenson lives at the 100 mile marker and his choice was Citizens or nothing. He said at that price he chose nothing for wind and flood, and just carries fire and causality, since that coverage is still available a reasonable rate.

I can only get Citizens for wind coverage at my little dump at the coast here on the Panhandle. If nothing is done soon, at the rate Insurance companies are pulling out of Florida, high priced Citizens insurance will be the only thing any of us will be able to get.

BTW, for those folks in other states who may not know, Citizens Property Insurance Corp. is a state-run insurance company created by the Florida Legislature in 2002. It insures all the houses, apartments, condos, mobile homes and other buildings that no private insurance company will take. Property ends up in Citizens when it has nowhere else to go. It is required to charge the highest rates in the state by law.
